roster/schedule settings for shorter schedules?

For those of you who run leagues with schedules >100 games:

How do you alter the roster and schedule settings?
Assuming the schedule isn't super condensed, what size rotation do you go with?
Do you change the active roster size and how do you break it down pitchers/position players?
Anything else that you change to make it play better?

I'd love to learn from others' mistakes before making them myself!
