Early Birthday Present

David Childress, perhaps the best pitcher in the young history of my four-year old fictional league, gave himself an early birthday present in the best-of-seven AL Eastern Finals against Atlanta. he won Games 1, 4 and 6 in the series, holding the juggernaut to four runs in 23 and two thirds innings, and breaking the league record for strikeouts- twice. The Atlanta team that his team was facing lead the majors in almost every category, but thanks in great part to his heroics, the Columbus Thunderchiefs beat the Atlanta Windsurfers in six games. After Game 6, Childress turned 37. What other great performances have you seen on people's birthday in this game?

How is his knuckleball rated 109?

Getting back to your question, I don't really pay attention to players' birthdays so I wouldn't be able to tell you.

$48.5 million in 1904 is equivalent to $27 billion in 2012, as a share of US GDP. Dude must have a ripping good knuckler!

I have 2013 settings, I just started in 1901 just to have a kind of "alternate history." And yes, if you look at his strikeout numbers compared to his age, (he is the all-time leader in strikeouts in this league so far), his knuckler is pretty darn good.

I'm just poking fun of you. I've gotten to the point where it is more fun for me to use current settings if I play during the 50's, whether in the 20th century or the 21st. It's one less mental calculation I have to do in my head and allows me to concentrate on getting more wins.

I hope your guy gets another 8-10 seasons in.

I hope he gets a ring one day (unfortunately, his team lost to the 117-win Bakersfield Beatnicks in seven games in the ALCS, where he stunk in Game 3 and was OK in Game 6, so maybe next year?) Btw, Columbus won the furst two games in Bakersfield quite convincingly (Bakersfield was over .800 at home this year. Yeah.), and still lost the series. Argh.
