This hockey game
I have been reading the posts on this hockey game and still on the fence as to wether or not I should buy it. I bought EHM years ago and it was a fun one season type game (second season I always got fired). I stopped playing OOTP back in 2002 when the roid rage era was just starting in roidball and have played the boxing game for many years (and still do today) my main question is is this game worth purchasing right now? Why and/or why not?

I bought it and I did not regret it any minute!
It makes especially fun if you want to play the historical game and custom leagues... It is/was improved patch by patch and has lots of potential! |

That said, if you want to buy a game based on potential, then invest, but frankly I dont buy programs so they can sit on my desktop and not be used. I want a game I can play. This is not that game.

It has some flaws but is highly enjoyable anyway and the dev team will certainly improve it in the not-so-distant future.
Alone for the high potential i´d recommend a purchase |

If you're buying this game expecting it to be the greatest thing since sliced bread (i.e. OOTP 14 for hockey), then you're going to be disappointed and shouldn't buy it (for now, anyway).
If you consider the price of the game to be more of an investment/project with some form of depth, customization and a few growing pains (see the many people on here complaining about bugs, ugly UI, wonky AI, etc.), then it's definitely worth a purchase. The developers have proven to give a **** about the game (hence the updates/patches, even if they still have a lot of climbing to do) and it's not unplayable, by any means. The main key is if you have the patience to live through a lot of frustration/headaches to see the game get to its full potential. If you can say yes to that, then it's definitely worth the cost, even if it is as more of an investment. |

Only thing I will add, is that over the last two days, I've played the game about 3-4 hours each day, and have enjoyed the experience. I am disappointed that the historical piece isn't that much fun to play, because there is no player development from what I understand, but I started playing as the Florida Panthers in the modern league, and haven't had any issues. I've thoroughly enjoyed the draft, and making a few trades has been fun. Is there still room for improvement on many fronts, sure, but for me, it has been a good experience.
And then again, I'm just enjoying being more of a "GM", and allowing my assistant to do all the "dirty work" of setting lines, roster moves, etc. You've had guys posting on here that are upset because a player who they signed to "police" things on the ice, isn't fighting enough, or a certain player is leading the league in "hits" which would be impossible in real life. Well, if you're going to "drill down" that deeply with this game at this stage of it's development, then you will probably be disappointed. If you want to wait for another patch or two, and give this game to yourself as a Christmas present, that would be understandable. But overall, the game isn't that terrible. Only alternative that I know of, would be Eastside Hockey Manager 2007. I can't comment on that version, but I did play 2005, and it was "just allright." And from what I've seen, they're still charging $34.99 for the game. No thanks! I'll continue playing this game, and enjoy the updates as they come! Last edited by progen; 11-30-2013 at 10:43 PM. |

custom leagues:
- preset league layout, no "freedom" - no expansion - your league is the NHL - real NHL players get recycled for your league - no way to reduce number of "background leagues" (slow!!) - no schedule editor - no way to tune player nationalities It's actually pretty stupid: If it was (finally) possible to edit teams and leagues, you could simply change the NHL to your liking and have in fact the exact same thing as in the custom mode. So in essence, custom mode would add nothing to the gaming experience. |

If you really want a hockey manager game for your PC and have the money to spare, I don't think you'll regret buying it.
At the moment it does have quite a few bugs, but the game is still playable and it's a decent manager game at this stage in my opinion. Now, I can't say it is worth the price at this moment, but if you have some money to spare you really have nothing g to lose picking this game up. It will only get better from here. |

I was going too say the same thing. There is no difference from taking the NHL and editing everything compared too starting a custom league from scratch. That's what I was doing before custom leagues became available. The custom league schedule(the one that I am using-30 teams-4 divisions) is starting too get old-real old.
