sitting a guy when simming with Coach controlling

I know i can force my coach to start someone at a position, so i can get my growth there, or have one reliever try out starting...

how do i force him to not do stupid thing like start our All-Star 2B who is DtD in mid september, with the team having already clinched? do i have to take over the line-up management, or is there an easier way (i ended up simming day by day, and changing the line-up everyday, at least he didn't over rule me and put the guy in after the first inning, i would have fired him... i am such a dictatorial GM i'm always surprised i am able to get any coach to play for me)

in the player strategy there is a "bench player for X days" the number includes the current day you are on
