Interested in Buying, But I'm Completely New

Hey guys!

I heard about OOTP a few days ago and it seems so cool. I've loved baseball my whole life and I also have a strong interest in sabermetrics and situational play, so this seems great for me. I have a few specific questions about what OOTP14 offers.

1. How specific can my simulations be? Can I simulate the Mariners on Tuesdays against the Padres on Saturdays? Can I create 2 teams made up of real players, and have the teams play each other where each player is defined by their past two weeks of performance and nothing else?

2. Is there an advantage to wait to buy OOTP15?

3. How easy is it to download the 'update' packages I've heard about which other users have created with updated player statistics from the 2013 season?

Thanks for any help

1) I think you could, but it would take a ton of legwork. The game can't do it out of the box.

2) Not really, unless money's an issue. Buy 14 now, get you legs under you, then go whole-hog when 15 comes out.

3) I don't use them, but such things have been generally very simple to use, in my experience.

Being new is no detriment. Your money is as good as all the old-farts in here.

I can't give any better answers than ot above. Rest assured that if it can be done someone will probably know.

If you can afford it buy v14 now and v15 when it comes out. I can't imagine the pain you would feel waiting for OOTP 15 to come out without having the previously best baseball sim to play with.

Geez I just realized that pain of expectation (one exception) may be the closest to childbirth that guys can experience.

Welcome to your addiction.

I often skip a version and still don't notice a huge difference in the game. By which I mean to say: buy OOTP 14 and start playing.

As a recently new member myself I would say buy it now that way you are familiar with the game and how it works.

I've realized the amount of hours I have put in (probably 24+ hours) thus far I have already gained a great deal of knowledge with navigating the screens. At the start you will find it to be a load of info, but rest assure as time progresses you get a really good feel for all the different screens.
