Missing Players After Trades

Another newbie question here.

I can't seem to locate players after I make a trade.

For example, I just traded for a pitcher. When I look at that pitchers info, it says he's on my MLB team, but he's nowhere to be found when I go to the rosters (25-man, 40-man, minor league).

Does the game just leave the player in limbo until you assign them somewhere?

Major league players traded are on your Designated for Assignment tab, they don't automatically come into your 40-man roster without you adding them (since you could have to move other players to make room)
