Playing with Finances Off

In the past I've always played out all of my games with finances on. I am thinking about giving finances off a try.

Has anyone one played with finances off? How do things play out with it that way compared to having finances on?

Once you acquire a player on your team, does that player stay with your team until they are released, traded, retire, etc or can they leave whenever they want to? How does "signing" a free agent work with finances off?

It's been a version or two since I've done this, so there might be changes, but this is my experience:

1) A player will be on your team until they are traded/released/retire. They won't spontaneously decide to leave. AI GMs won't release players unless under some kind of pressure (roster size, etc.) to do so.

2) There will, of course, be very (very) few FAs with this. You instantly receive any players you make 'offers' to. You would need to police yourself if you want 'competition' for players. (If you wait a few days, if the AI's interested they'll snap up players as well.)
