A-Rod's gotta get his money
This probably didn't need its own thread but I found it pretty funny/irritating.
I'm currently 114 games into my 2017 season with the Yankees and A-Rod's contract is still lingering. I guess greed really plays a factor? I kept him on the roster when he wasn't on the DL in 2013, 2014, 2015 and for about a week in 2016 as his skills quickly deteriorated. Since then he has spent his time with AAA Scranton. Just recently I demoted him to AA because of how bad he was playing (at this point there'd really be no harm in releasing him outright as he has adds zero value to the organization). I'd like to contrast this with the case of CC Sabathia. CC pitched decent for me in 2013, pretty badly in 2014, and then spent about two-thirds of 2015 in the minors. However, with another year left on his massive contract (and at only 34 years of age, compared to A-Rod's 42) he retired after the 2015 season. Interesting, especially since at that point CC still held a ton more value than A-Rod does now.

How did you get past the right to refuse demotion?

I assume A-Rod accepted the demotion. Happens from time to time. I have a long time player on a fictional team that I keep resigning to keep him with the organization and he has always accepted the minor league assignment whenever I try to demote him.

Agreed. It seems like the players owed big bucks never do.

Yeah, occasionally they'll accept the demotion. Maybe I waived him too? Don't remember.

With that contract, he would definitely clear waivers.
