Playoffs/Round Robin for Promotion/Relegation

I would like to see a playoff format for promotion/relegation were the bottom teams play in a round robin to see who stays & who get relegated.
Just my idea.

You can do this manually in the schedule editor. After the season, schedule a playoff game between the bottom 2 teams and manually switch the loser to the lower league.

And now something not directed at you:

For those who are interested in promotion/relegation, this is a GREAT idea. The reason why promotion/relegation is so hard to set up is because the AI doesn't know the difference between last or second to last. In real life, like in European soccer, if a club is in danger of relegation, they will do anything in their power to avoid it. The OOTP AI won't. The team will just keep selling off whatever decent players they still have for prospects.

HOWEVER, the AI does know how to win a game. So if you schedule a loser/relegation tournament between the bottom 2 or 4 teams, the AI will do everything in its power to win that game and avoid being relegated.

Great idea!

I've got to concur. I never thought of that before, but this is a fantastic way to do promotion/relegation. I've never been able to do it before because (as said) the AI doesn't understand the league format. But this is a good workaround for now.

The big problem with current promotion/relegation options is the AI mentality and financials.

EDIT: Had to manually schedule the playoffs. The championship (in the Premier League) is done with the league's playoffs. Then you just need to manually switch teams, as already mentioned.

Only problem I have is that a player looks at the contract (financials) not the league the team is in. AI doesn't know that the 'real' championship happens in league one. Trying to fix this with financials.

I'd love to see promotion and relegation. It brings online leagues to a new level!

I have a 12 leagues in my Promotion/Relegation System. I use the Association as a Champions League. I also changed my financials so that the Premier league can outbid the lower leagues for players. I used 2013 financial settings for my premiere league and scaled down every 10-20 years for each lower league.

I manually added 5 exhibition games for a 4 team double elimination tourney to determine who gets relegated.

Worked great but I had a problem 20 years into it because I had 240 teams with minors and feeders slowed the game down too much.

Just remember to change teams in the preseason otherwise it will screw up recording standings and champions. ALSO make sure you reset your schedule after moving your teams. Otherwise schedule will be screwed up. I had to manually change the schedule one season. It was a complete mess.

I've always wanted to do a promotion/relegation league. I know the basics of how it works, but I'll need some English soccer fans to help fill in some of the details.

How does it affect Free Agent signings? I can see how a superstar may not want to sign with a team in danger of being relegated.

Are super-star players able to put "escape clauses" into their contracts in this event?

Would this mean there are no minor leagues? If this is the case, how do drafts work?

Wiki has some good stuff on Promotion/Relegation and Premiere Reserve League.

The free agents wont be affected by Promotion/Relegation but the way I have my universe set up is that the lower leagues financials so they cant sign the high priced free agents. Also I have the lower leagues player Salary capped.

I use to use full minors and feeders but the sims got too slow. Now I am doing 1 minor league for my reserves and U21 Feeders and U17 feeders.
