Trading value?
![]() ![]() 2 23/24 year old players who are set to become nothing more than bench players, although good bench pieces at that. For... ![]() A 25 year old (entering his age 26 season) with only 126 days on his MLB resume. He killed it in his first stint in the MLB too. I'll have this player under team control until he's 31 or 32. Then I can sign him for up to 8 years.... I just stole this player. Now, here's the problem. In any form of MLB there is no way a trade like this goes through. The player was not angry, so that couldn't have been why his trade value was so low. Is it his low eye? His lack of speed? His lack of gap power? His position, 1B (11 rating out of 20 so not bad)? What is it that's causing his value to be so low? Are bench players over valued? I just traded a 1/1 star OF and a 1/1.5 star OF for a 5/5 star 1B. Anybody have any ideas? |

Well you got a steal! Back in 11, I once traded a 1/1 utlility 3B guy in his late 20s for a 24 year old 4.5/5 center fielder. I kept him for 6 more years, while the guy I traded to get him retired after 3 more years as a bench guy.
Maybe it is because a team needs help at a certain position and it is strong at another that you can pull off trades like these. Maybe the team you traded with desperately needed outfielders, while they still had a decent 1B waiting in the wings. That's the only explanation I can offer. |

Defense?
What were their defensive ratings? Were they one-position guys, or versatile?
Fragile or durable? Popular or unknown? And remember that there are some player ratings kept hidden from us (e.g. level of greed). That said, I agree that the AI often makes some staggeringly surprising deals. |

I agree with Ike ... don't overthink it, you got a bargain.
Without knowing anything else, I'd guess the team that traded your 5 star 1B desperately needed outfielders and overvalued the ones you offered. And to be fair, they look more like 2-3 star players than 1 star. iOOTP 2013 makes this sort of trade much more difficult to pull off. Instead of undervaluing players, other teams' GMs overvalue them. |
