New Fictional League - want to start with subpar players
So I want to create a small league with 12 teams and I want the league to start with mostly subpar players, think independent league or A ball at best. How do I adjust the settings so that the players created fit the bill?

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but if all players were subpar, wouldn't it change the relative playing field making them all seem decent (or something like that)? If bad pitchers face bad hitters, wouldn't the stats even out?

Yes, a league is always average. If it's full of crappy players, then they are not crappy, but average.

However, if you want to start with players that have ratings equivalent to A-ball, then have better (meaning, ratings equivalent to higher levels) players show up later, I think the player creation modifiers are what you're looking for.
I'd check the MLB quickstart for what the A-ball modifiers are, and work from there until you get what you want. |

If you do that be aware, that when the new players come in there are going to be some supermen playing amongst boys.

IIRC, there are two different places to set the creation modifiers - one sets the initial league talent level, and one affects incoming draft classes and free agents. As long as they're not too far off from each other, the difference in talent won't be insane, and you can slowly adjust the draft classes over time to increase the talent levels.

Another issue though, is that OOTP tends to move the talent of a league to the objective center, so playing a league where the center is somewhere abnormal will give abnormal development of players......not necessarily bad, just something to be aware of.....

I have done this in the past and was happy with the results. Bear in mind this with OOTP6, so it might be different today.
1. Start the league with the league structures you want, including the minors structure (very important) 2. Release all the players at each level 3. Delete all the FAs. This should result in zero players on every team at every level. 4. Now if you want (for example) AA players at the top level, fill the AA rosters with fictional players. 5. Run the setup Organization button for each team. This should put all the AA quality players at the top level. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5. This fillsup MLB and AAA for each team. 7. Now fillup AA, A and Rookie, and you are good to go. Hope that's clear. It did work for me. As the other posters' have pointed out, the incoming draftees will be your best players. Thus a Golden Age will begin. That's what I liked about it. Good luck if you go this way.

Thanks for the feedback, I have tried a few of these options, I will try again with releasing everyone and filling it with the AA players.
I will sim a few years and report back on the progress.
