For Those Who Manually Vote For Awards

What are your deciding factors when it comes to Gold Gloves?
Do you rely on ZR? what helps you decide?

When I vote for awards I always ask the computer 1st then make changes.
MVP candidates get more weight when playing on a playoff team. Triple crowns are almost automatic MVP. All my triple crown awards winners have won the MVP and only 1 was not on a playoff team.

Defense is my primary concern. When I override the AI suggestions it is because the AI went with someone with a very good ZR, but may not have lead his position in assists, putouts, DP or least errors. I have given the AL 2B GG to a player who I know has a range of 4 an arm of 5 and a DP rating of 4. He had the most assists and the most DP and the fewest E. His ZR was negative. The AI wanted to give it to a player who played in 20 less games, with less TC, he did have more putouts though. 2 more E then the GG winner.
Catchers with the highest thrown out % + most games win. Even the AI can't dispute 10 time GG winner Dennis Ray and his career 48.7%.

What should I be looking at more when it comes to GG? and why? I will post examples in a few weeks.

Got it right in the first sentence, but then lost your way......

(Sorry, one of my pet peeves)

I always let the AI pick the Gold Gloves....he has seen the players play and I have only read about them......

What Questdog said. I pick all the other awards myself (and greatly enjoy doing so), but I don't see enough defensive play to judge who gets the Gold Gloves.

If the ZR is negative, the player is not a GGer.

Not to derail the topic but OOTP only gives out/"comes with" like what 4 awards? Do you guys manually enter in all the other awards? I did rename the ones they give out to what they are called In real life... Does OOTP recognize triple crown if it occurs? Mind you I'm speaking for the real MLB leagues and not fictional leagues!

I'm on my 2nd season and I don't recall OOTP giving out gold gloves; unless I missed it (which is very possible being brand spanking new).

OOTP doesn't seem to recognize the feat if it's achieved by a pitcher or maybe none have got the TC in my league.

I've seen a pitching Triple Crown, and gotten a news story about it. OOTP recognizes it.

Why not? Player A has a ZR of - 4.4 had 702 TC 567 A 298 PO (making #'s up) 12 E while player B has a ZR of + 11 had 656 TC 490 A 290 PO 20 E. Why is player A not better?

You can only create 1 custom award in the game. Hopefully this will be changed in the future. Also, you have to change the title of the default awards if you want it to match MLB. By default the real life Gold Glove award is called 'Glove Wizard Award'.

Edit: noticed you said you renamed them already so nevermind.

OOTP recognizes it, but sadly doesn't record it in league history. Only batting TC's are saved there. This addition has been requested for several versions on the suggestions forum, but still hasn't materialized.

One would think that if the game recognizes it for the news, it should be able to record it for history as well.

Because Player A is getting sooooo many more ground balls hit to him.

Here is what I am talking about. SS# is the GG winner 2011 & 2012. The other 3 SS's are players who I believe contended (AI did not pick the winner) for the GG those 2 seasons. I manually went with player #1. Tell me why any of those 3 should have won.

It recognizes it...but doesnt list it in the history section for Triple Crown winners. That list is batters only.

But doesn't add it to the Award history. Only batters. as Cras said. Missed that.

You mean 2B, right? 2 & 3 are both significantly better, but I agree they didn't play enough games. Surely there is someone more deserving than any of these 4.

OK.....If I take a typical Cal Ripken and put him in CF, and he plays his typical 162 games, he will have more putouts and TC on the year than Jim Edmonds, who will play his typical 110 games. Ripken will have a negative ZF. Ripken is not the better CFer.

I think you're getting at something like: do you want the GG to be given out reasonably or realistically. Because we all (I assume), know that GG's in real life are not given strictly to the best fielders. Sabermetric stats are trying to determine the best fielder by value to their team, and if you trust those stats and want the award to be given to the best fielders (which is ostensibly what they're for), you'd use the sabermetric stats.

If you want it to be realistic, I assume you just look for most HR's among the top 10 or 20 by FPCT... (though I say that without actually looking up stats or award history - this is just how I (and others, I think) assume the GG's work)

Trying to find the best fielders vs. trying to decide who would get the GG in real life are two totally separate problems. Right?

2B in the AL is weak in my game. NL winner those 2 years had a ZR of +18 approx and 7 E each year. Also played on the best team. How are 2 & 3 better? they both had about the same amount of E in fewer games.

GG's are not to be given out based on a player's offense. That being said the winner mentioned above is his teams best player 2009 ROTY 2010 MVP. 4 time AS .339 career avg.

How are the other 3 better then player #1. All 3 would have more E in 157 games. None would have the same amount of TC or A. Yes he is benefited by being on a great team with 3 solid GB pitchers while the other 3 were on teams with a less then .500 record. Although that doesn't factor in for GG's.
Why is player 1 so bad, in your opinion and ZR when his stats are clearly better? Rafael Palmeiro and his 27 games at 1B will never win a GG in my league.
