Best team to not win the championship
Was just going through my league history and thinking about all of those amazing teams that looked like they should win the world series but fall short. Perhaps ironically, since part of the reason I started in the 90s was to give the Expos a chance at the world series in '94, the 1994 Expos won 107 games after battling the Braves all season long for the division title.
The Braves won the first wild card in my league with 104 games and at one point lead the division by 12 games before the Expos went on a 12 game, followed shortly by a 19 game winning streak to catch and pass the Braves. Perhaps they were beat after that divisional battle because they were taken out easily in the first round by the 89 win Dodgers, 3-1. The Braves would go on to win that year's world series. Anyways, was wondering what some of your best teams that probably should have won the championship in your leagues? |

In my current fictional British and Irish League, the best team not to win the championship was sadly my own Plymouth team in the 2013 season.
We also finished with 107 wins (the best record in the league) and having reached the championship series, won the first three games and opened up a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the 7th in game 4, but still contrived to lose the series in 7 games. Although we won the championship the following year and again two years after that, that one that really got away still hurts! Our record of 107 wins and not winning the championship has since been broken (108) but only after the schedule increased from 162 games to 168 so that team had a lower PCT. |

In my EBL league the Ewok Village Ewoks have made the playoffs 4 out of 6 times, the WS 2 of those times yet keep losing. They have the best rotation in the AL over the last 5 seasons. Offensively they have been great the last 2 solid the previous 3 years before that. Their biggest weakness is their lack of defense.
Another team has 9 2nd place finishes. They are in the same league, now division as a team that has made the playoffs in 11 of my leagues 13 seasons. That team has 6 championships.
