Purchasing players from independent minor league teams

I think it would be awesome if there was a way for major league teams to "purchase" players from unaffiliated minor league teams that are in an affiliated league. We'd be able to simulate baseball before the farm system really got started. I imagine it might be hard to implement without making it really easy for the human player.
