Keeler wants to play closer to his home? Jeez, how much closer to home can a player get than to play in his home city? This SL gave me a good laugh.

That isn't a storyline; it's just part of the regular news.

I'm not sure the "trade rumor" stories are actually storylines - I'm pretty sure they were in the game before storylines came about.

Storylines actually have the ability to gauge whether or not a player's team is in his hometown, so if it were a storyline, it could be fixed to pay attention to that criteria. But I just think this is an unfortunate coincidence with the particular version of trade rumor text that was chosen for this article.

Aaaand.... injury log beats me to the punch.

Ah, good catch, David Watts. However, I think you are probably giving the game a bit too much credit.

No, more likely the trade story (news article or storylines) is processed independently of looking at the player's home town. And that's because the game is not perfect.

Call me a fanboy (go ahead, I dare you! ()), but I overlook such imperfections in order to step back and admire the totality of this project. My gosh, do you guys realize how complicated this game is? It's a wonder that it approaches as closely to realism and has the level of quality that it does already.

That's not to say that:
  • I criticize OP for bring it up. Doing so is a community service and through the actions of all of us, we continue to make this game better.
  • I did not laugh at a guy who said:
    • "Look, Mr. Hanlon, please trade me because I want to play closer to home."
    • "Whaddaya talking about Willie? You live here in Brooklyn!"
    • "Yeah, boss, but it's the road trips. All that travelin' to Boston and Chicago and Saint Louie - it's wearin' me down! I figured if you would trade me to Pittsburgh or Cincy, I'd move there and be right in the middle of things."

Home is where the heart is. A house is not a home. Willie Keeler knows this all too well.

I got one of these, too.

"Waaah. I wanna play closer to home."

My response would be:

"Hey, mastermind. It's 1926. There ain't no big league ballclub in Colorado yet. You want the bush league? Coz I can make that happen for ya!"

Yeah, this is nothing but a trade rumor. Not a storyline. The guy's unhappy and wants to be traded, and the game spat out one of the few story templates it has about a player wanting a trade. That doesn't take a player's home city into consideration.

I've seen this many times now, where someone's player gets injured or they get a news report on them, and instantly blame storylines. But actually, you would be getting this message even if you had storylines turned off. Whether you like them or not, it's important to realize what is and isn't a storyline.

I have revised this item in the DB to eliminate the home town as a factor.

We JUST had that whole debacle with Andreas's thread on this subject. I don't know if you're joking or not, but either way, let's not go there. Some people like storylines, some people don't, and neither side is going to convince the other.

Forgot to mention shortly after I posted this I traded for Keeler. He has been my RF/1B backup OF for the past 3 seasons now. Should love the fact that we don't play Brooklyn.

Well, your being based in Chicago should be better for him, if you buy my premise in post #7, above. Still think Pittsburgh or Cincy would have been even better for him, though . . .

One of the top players in my league signed a long term (7 or 8 year) contract 2 years ago for quite a bit of money. After 2 years I got a storyline saying he fired his agent because he was expecting to receive a new deal before the season was over. Then a week or so later I got a news story saying he had hired a new agent and was excited about getting a new contract....he's still signed with his old team for another like 6 years.

Hey I have get to see one but is there a storyline in the game where teammates hate each other or fight each other? One players commits adultery with his teammate's wife? Something like that.
