Historical players/fake names
I am pretty sure I can't do this, but will ask anyway.
I want to start a league in 2013, but have a full 1900-2012 fictious history. I tried doing it the normal way, by simming the entire period with fictional players. But I just didn't like the results. I want to instead sim 1900-2012 with historical players. But, then I want everybody's name randomly changed. I want players who represented Bonds, Aaron, Ruth, etc. to comprise the all time HR leader lists. But, since those players will then reenter my league via my method of creating a random draft class, I need the players to originally have fake names. I also want to start out in 2012-13 offseason with today's players (obviously not on their real teams, but whereever they end up), but also need them to have their names changed. I know that I could do this by changing everybody's name in the database, using VLOOKUP in Excel. But, I want to look up some of my favorites to see what numbers they had before I change everybody's names. So, I don't want to do that. I know that I can hit the randomize names button during the 2012-13 offseason. But, I assume that's just going to be for the players already in the league and the oldtimers won't be affected. |

I'm not sure if the "randomize names" affects only active players or not.

I just ran a test.
Randomize names did also randomize the retired players. So, that's what I wanted. Then, I also ran a 2nd test. I decided to make a DiMaggio for Williams trade and then sim forward a year. Then, I randomized the names. I was hoping that, in their player history, instead of it saying "traded for Ted Williams" and "traded for Joe DiMaggio", that it would say "traded for Juan Valentin" and "traded for Steve Brown." But, it retained the player's original names. I didn't want it to do that. I wanted both. But, I can live with only having the former and not also the latter. |
