Improvements to league evolution feature

What are some of the things you would like to see added or improved when it comes to league evolution?

I love the idea of random expansion(controlled by the game), but I don't want to see my Gulf Coast League to expand to one of OOTP's lovechilds, The Bronx, Queens and or Manhattan. Would be great if we could actually upon league creation outline the cities that OOTP could choose from for expansion.

Has the problem ever been fixed when it comes to teams relocating? I know in the past if Shreveport moved to Alexandria following the 1980 season, all the stats on the players cards would show Alexandria for 1980. If this still happens it shouldn't.

Being the control freak I am, this feature wouldn't ever get turned on by me, even if it was perfectly implemented.....

Don't understand why anyone would want the game to make decisions for them......like those idiots that just want to manage and let the game GM.....oh, wait,.....sorry......

By the way, I know almost everything is this game is editable, so this makes me wonder....is there a way one can delete The Bronx, Queens and Manhattan out the list of cities altogether?

+1 on the ability to regionally lock the automated expansion. When my All-Michigan league suddenly all had to deal with scheduling road trips to Fresno... well, yea...

Also would be nice to simulate an owners vote for changes as well. Penny pinching owners might drool over those expansion fees and vote yes... Owners loaded with talent might want a 45 man roster... The San Fran owner might take issue with El Paso relocating to San Jose...

Even if all the decisions are already made behind the curtain by the AI, and it's all just for show, would be nice to add a little depth beyond "yo, this is happening next year."

Did you have a Saginaw team in your all Michigan league?

Yes. I did it.

Yes, it is easy to do....just open the world_default.xml file in a text editor and delete their entries......I have done this, though I left Brooklyn in, even though it is just another burrough like the rest of them nowadays.....

This is (was) a bug in the XML anyways - that the burroughs AND the whole city are listed....should be one way or the other....as it is (was) New York gets double credit for its population and thus supplies double the players that it should......I put (was) in there, because I use my own XML file nowadays and haven't looked at the default one in a while and it may not still be that way.....

P.S. if you do this and want to leave Brooklyn, like I have, you should subtract Brooklyn's population from New York's to keep everything kosher.....

P.S.#2 remember whenever you edit default files you should make a backup of your edited file (the original too), because whenever you update with a patch, your file will get written over and you'll need to replace it......

Add more options, but mostly -

Allow the options to be controlled by the Commish/User.

No events get activated automatically - one of two things should happen

1. Game opts to make evolution change - email sent to Commish outlining change and awaiting his approval/disapproval/modification

2. Commish can enable any change at his convenience

Don't know if something like this would be possible, but I would love it if the number of games in a season could be tied into league expansion and would increase or decrease based on the availability of a matching OOTP schedule.

But once you get to a 16 team All-Michigan league with four levels of minors... you start running out of towns of any considerable size. You couldn't throw a dead cat in the Metro Detroit area without hitting at least one minor league field...

Born and raised in Saginaw. Always remember my dad telling me about the short stay of the Saginaw Bears. They played at the old Vets Field in Buena Vista.

Don't know the last time you've been back to your old stomping grounds... But Dow Diamond over in Midland is a nice minor league park... Just built a few years ago. My in-laws have a summer place about 45 mins or so north and we've gone to a good half dozen Great Lakes Loons games over the last few summers.

Last time I checked, their manager was a charter member of the "Great Baseball Names Hall of Fame"... A HoF which I just created in my head...

I really want to get up there and see that stadium. Friends have sent me pictures.

How about instead of More/less offense or More/less pitching if we had the option to choose a decade or more and have OOTP randomly cycle the modifiers through that time period. This way we could have changes, but wouldn't have to be afraid of the league turning into roid ball.

As the parent of this particular feature (which was originally inspired by something in Front Office Football), let me explain the rationale.

This feature was intended for those who want to have a universe which undergoes changes without their prompting. That is, instead of being the god of your universe and having to decide on everything that happens, you can instead sit back and go along for the ride—the story unfolds without you having to decide on every single plot point. It makes the baseball universe feel more 'alive' in that without such unprompted evolution the league would remain forever static and unchanging, which is not particularly realistic.

The league evolution which is in OOTP at the moment is just barely scratching the surface of what this feature could ultimately do. I have a clear vision of where it can go and what it could include... whether it'll ever get there is another matter entirely.

How bout league retraction instead of just expansion? Now obviously would hve to exclude the human controlled teams... 23 years in and finally this offseason you will add the final missing piece or two... on the cusp of winning it all... and sorry, team has folded.

Retraction with a dispersal draft! Shooting for the moon here, I know... but hey... teams folding wouldn't be terribly outrageous in a fictional / regional league.

My comment was meant mainly as a joke for my idol, Mr. Watts....I see the attraction of such a feature.....
