Setting up a hybrid fiction/historical player league
I have ideas for a new "fictional" league. I've never actually played a fictional league yet, so I have some questions about it. Actually, I want to set up a hybrid of fictional/historical league.
My plan is to sim from 1900 up to now, with fictious players. Then, once I hit the 2012-13 offseason, the league is going to be a hybrid of fictional and historical players. I want to then have the incoming draft classes be a hybrid of fictional and historical players. I'll write up later some of my ideas for trying to get a hybrid draft class of historical and fictitious players. But, I'll also ask if anyone else has tried this and what their approach was. No need to reinvent the wheel, if I don't have to. Here are some of my questions. I may be adding to the list as I get closer to setting it up. 1) I want to set it up as the historical league starting in 1900 and now it's 2013. I want a full century of history. I am thinking of starting with 16 teams, then expanding to the present day of maybe the actual 30 teams, maybe 32 or I might even go to 40. I haven't figured out the exact number. Is there any way that I can set up, at the beginning with when expansion occurs? Or, do I have to do things like sim up to 1960, stop sim, add expansion teams, proceed to next expansion, ... I would like to just go to bed one night and wake up the next morning with the league already unfolded. I'm hoping I don't have to actually add the expansion myself. I seem to remember that, in a past version, years ago, there was a file that we could manipulate that allowed us to control the automatic expansion of the league. Is that still there? Also, could my memory be wrong? IF I'm right, this would have been approximately 5-6 years ago. 2) I want to start with the 2013 settings/modifiers and want them to remain steady throughout the entire history of the league. I'd like to have all generations have equal opportunities at all time records and don't want records frozen forever because a player was able to accumulate his stats under conditions that were never again replicated. So, I assume that I would do to is, under "options", I'd just enter 2013 as the historical year. I just want to confirm that my assumption is correct. The one option I want to change is to change closers use from "very often" to "normal." But, I also want the financials to auto import, starting from 1900. I assume that the year I enter for historical for financials works independently of the year I enter in the strategies tab. 3) In the "strategy" tab of the game setup, for league totals, I'd like to use 2002 as the baseline. I love good offensive eras, but, as tempting as it is, don't want 1998 as the baseline. Having the MLB have an average 4.28 ERA is a good offensive level for my taste. But, I also do want the occassional good pitching/hitting eras. I'd like to have some eras have even more offense than the 4.28 league ERA. I'd like to have some pitching eras, but the dead ball era and 1968 is much pitching for my taste. So, I'm assuming that, starting with a 2002 baseline, the good pitching eras will still have enough offense to make me happy. Under dynamic evolution, there's separate options for "more/less offense" and "more/less pitching." That looks redundant. Would I want to check both of them or just one of them? 4) Does anyone know what percentage of the average OOTP draft class ever reaches the majors? Last edited by nyy26wc; 08-23-2013 at 09:13 AM. |

5) I want to link each team to an actual team. At least for 30 of them.
I want to require that, in the 1st round of each draft, they must select a player who was identified with the team they are linked with. If I end up with the 40 teams, then those 10 unaffiliated teams would then draft the best potential fictitious player. In order to do this, I would have to draft for every team for the 1st round, before I start drafting just for my team in the 2nd round. Would I be able to do that, as the commissioner, without having to switch the team that I am "acting as" for every single pick in the 1st round? |
