Scouts' recommendations in draft

One more question.

Does anyone know why, when you ask for your scout's recommendation during the draft, he suggests a player who he has rated poorly?

In fact, it's rare that the scout recommends a player that he has rated at the top of his board.

I get that sometimes the scout takes signability and position into account, and that's fine. But there might be an SP that he has rated with 20 actual, 42 potential sitting on the board to sign for slot (a true SP, not a future reliever), and he'll recommend an SP he's rated at 20 actual, 25 potential.

BTW, I usually play with personality settings turned off, so that's not likely to be it.

Yeah, I don't get this either. I don't listen to my scout's recommendations anymore.

I never really thought about that until you brought it up, but yeah. That really doesn't make much sense.

The scout will do this no matter his quality. I set my scout to be terrible and to be awesome -- same thing.

Yes, I would like an explanation as well. Every draft I face the same question... Do I choose the Scout's recommendation (a 1 star player/potential), or do I choose one of the many 4 to 5 star potential players on the board?

And if my scout is passing up these 4 & 5 star potential players (which he scouted and evaluated at a 4 & 5 star potential player), for a 1 star player, then why does he evaluate this player as only 1 star?

Very confusing for me at the draft.

I know ill take a tongue lashing for suggesting this, but it's my theory that your scout is in fact making recommendations based on players' actual ratings, rather than the fog of war ratings used by the scout. Has anyone had an opportunity to see what the scouts' recommendations are using actual ratings as the accuracy setting?

This interests me because in my historical replay league I (nearly) always take the scouts recommendation so I can't take advantage of out-of-game knowledge.

Wouldn't surprise me. It wouldn't be the first time you get a God's view on player ratings. The prospect lists and top 20 player lists are 100% accurate.

I don't think it's actual ratings either. One of my 13 leagues I ran with scouting turned off (and ostensibly the 'fog of war' removed) and the recommendations in the draft were still all over the map. I didn't do any hardcore analysis, but whatever algorithm that is used has some wiggle room... doesn't work with every pick, but many times if you push the "scout recommendation" button 10 times in a row, he'll spit out 2 or 3 different options... so it's not a chiseled in stone calculation. Best I can figure, different combinations of position and personality traits are involved. One draft, I had one of the worst bullpens in the league and 2-3 almost ML ready college closers were right there... and he'd spit out a 2.5 POT right fielder.

I noticed in my last draft, that, for nearly every round, the scout's recommendation ended up being the next player picked (if I turned it down).

I've noticed this as well in my drafts. I ask, "Why are you recommending this one star loser when I could draft this four star SP?" And after I take the four star SP, the next team takes the one star loser.

Makes you wonder what everyone else knows that you don't.
