What's the rule? 40 man roster and trades
Not sure if there is a rule I don't know about, or if it's a bug...
I trade for a player who is required to be on the 40 man roster and is out of options, but is currently on the AAA roster of his current team. I understand that after the trade I need to put him on my 40 man roster, but OOTP won't let me add him to my AAA roster. It requires me to add him to my active roster. Does OOTP have that correct? |

I think if you pass him through waivers first, you can put him on your AAA team directly, but I've never tried.

I've seen this too, and don't quite get it either. It seems like trading him automatically puts him on the active roster. Seems to me that if he's in the minors, the trade shouldn't affect that regardless of how many option years he has left.

This is my understanding of how OOTP does it - LGO is the man who can tell you how it's supposed to work in real life.
It sounds like the player you traded for had previously been on the 40-man roster (i.e. he had a major league contract) and had previously passed unclaimed through waivers earlier in the season, allowing him to be taken off the 40-man roster and outrighted to the minors. So that's where he was when you traded for him. When you acquire a player in a trade (or a FA signing for that matter), if he has a major league contract, he automatically goes to your DFA section. If he has a minor league contract, he goes to your lowest level minor league (typically). For the player with the major league contract sitting in DFA, to get him back to the minors, he has to again pass through waivers unclaimed. Not sure if that's the way it is in real life or not. So basically you can just leave him in DFA, right click on him and place him on waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, you should be able to send him to AAA just like his former team did. But his status of "Cleared waivers" was reset as soon as he changed teams. Last edited by hefalumps; 08-06-2013 at 03:03 PM. |
