Rookie designation question.

I checked the MLB rules about it. Basically when its during the 25 man roster period a person below 130 AB's or 45 days is still a rookie. What if you put a guy on the big league roster August 20th and they accumulate AB's and games. Obviously not 130 AB's or 45 days within that 10 day time span. However, once it hits September does the count stop or does it continue because the player was on the roster during the 25 roster limit. This is mainly of interest for RoY award stuff.

Determining rookie status:
A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list).

Ok, this is the MLB rule. So the clock continues... oh well.

The only thing that doesn't count during September Roster expansion is days on the active roster. Option (b) above is the only one that depends on accumulating time during the period of the 25-player limit. The stats are for all major league stats. So either (a) or (b) is what qualifies/disqualifies him from being a rookie.

So if a batter were to somehow get 131 ABs in September (not going to happen) he would not be eligible for ROY the following year.

That makes sense, I wasn't separating A and B entirely.

Theoretically, a player could get more than 130 AB or 50 IP if he were called up more than once when rosters expanded and still be under the 45 day limit. With 4 AB a game you still need around 33 games to get over 150. So a guy could be on his 3rd roster expansion call up and have 130 ABs. That is about the equivalent of 11 starts a call up.
