Can I Make This Guy A Starter?

I'm using full scouting, set to normal. Found this guy as a free agent, middle of last season. His assets and potential seem amazing, just his stamina is lacking. I've put him into the rotation as a starter, will his stamina build over time to a high enough level that he will ever be an effective starter?

Stamina doesn't really change much and you usually need at least a 3 (on a 10 scale) to use them as a starter so looks like this guy is stuck in the bullpen.

I agree with the last post. However, I have had occasions where I wasn't paying attention and a reliever was inserted into my rotation and went a couple of months pitching 5-6 innings per start with a great ERA.

Small sample size so I don't think you can really count on it, but it may work every now and then.

He'd probably be ok starting in AAA for a bit and see.

Give him some starts in AAA and see what he can do. His low stamina is an issue. A starter that barely lasts 5 innings before he's out of gas can burn up the bullpen pretty quick.

Had a guy like this once, with even better stuff/pitch ratings but low stamina. He was a very effective ML starter for several years but (if my memory is correct) he never gave me 200 innings in a season. For 180 or so innings a year he put up great numbers. He lost a lot of wins 'cause he didn't pitch 5 innings in a start. And when he was about 30 and his skills began to decline a bit he stopped being an effective starter at all.

Oh, and I don't think his stamina ever went up despite 200+ starts in the big leagues.

My experience with this guy was in OOTP 12 and 13.

i just had a guy, veteran tho, who had some great stuff but had stamina issues.

He did pretty well for me, but I do have an absolutely outstanding bullpen.

I just traded him this offseason. He is old, got a new guy who I think is ready to step up to the majors...the team I traded for him though put him in as their closer.

It's up to you. Give him a shot in the minor leagues if you're really desperate to see what he can do. Normally I'd tell you it's more about the number of pitches than the stamina, but in his case his stamina is essentially at the bare minimum. He'd be lucky to still have juice past two innings of work.

Not starter material.

Thanks, I have been starting him, and through 4 starts he has logged 22.2 innings at AAA, ERA of 4.12. Still young, only 20. I saw his last progress report and his stamina increased by 1, which I use a 1-100 scale, so that really doesn't mean anything at this point.

Probably will never pan out, but I've got a pretty good rotation in the majors baring injury, so I think I'll see what a full season at AAA as a SP will do for him.

Lol, good job keeping track of what's going on with your team, Mr. GM sir.

But in all seriousness, I have simmed from Opening Day to near the trade deadline, and then from the trade deadline directly to the playoffs. More of a draft/trade guy, so I don't give a fuark about the games until playoffs.
