How Is Your Pitching Doing in 14 vs 13?

I converted my current season for my main league 5 game or so int my 2008 season. All 5 of my SP are custom players 3 of which are eventual HOFers
(actually all 5 but 2 play 6 & 7 seasons so rethinking them). So far only 1 SP has fewer hits then IP. The worse guy is a 3 tim POTY winner and is the all time leader in wins, ERA & K. While those #'s are actually good for him this season 11-2 2.78 112 in 108 IP he has given up 123 hits. My defense is terrible which is probably teh main factor in the fact that 4 of them have more H then IP. My 2B is a 3, 3B 4, I traded away my starting 1B and I am now playing 1B part time, LF & C. I am a 3 at 1B. My SS has 18 E in 54 g.Only had 18 E in 144 G last year. Both my main C have more CS then SB so they have been good. My CF is darn good but his range has weakened.
So I stop rambling is it more a product of bad defense vs me thinking 14 hates pitching? (1978 financials & strategy 160 G - interleague) I am 49-18 best record in the EBL 9.5 game lead in the AL. (I play 90% of my games)

It's most likely your defense. Attached is a screenshot of my Rays' pitching staff. It's late September of 2017 (hence the large number of players), so there's almost a full year for sample size. The season's been played entirely in OOTP14, and my pitching staff has, for the most part, been my strong suit the whole way through. Only two starters and two relievers have more Hits than Innings Pitched, and my defense has been relatively strong all year (5th in the majors in Defensive Efficiency). So yeah, I'd say it's likely your defense.

Granted, this was imported from OOTP13, so it's not technically a "clean" '14 game. But I still say it's your defense.

It is baffling me why this guy is doing so poorly.
Edit: pulled after 4 5 ER.

With a BABIP of .372, it really shouldn't.

His stats are through the roof. I know my defense sucks but since i posted this i have simmed 3 weeks. He still struggles while 2 other pitchers now have less H then IP. Kyp is a custom player with a edited stat line. 100% scouting. On 11, 12 & 13 he has won 22+ games with an ERA under 2.00 in 2008. I also had worse defense last time I got to 2008.

Pitcher performance variation happens. It's a feature, not a bug. A bad defense + an unlucky pitcher (his FIP doesn't look too bad, so he's likely being unlucky in hard contact with a bad defense behind him) equals underperformance.

I got bored and slightly upset after being up by10+ games since mid May and the fact that my display froze after 2 great games vs the best team in the NL canceling out both games, I simmed the remainder of the regular season. My top 4 SP won 20+ games. Kyp finished with decent #'s but won;t be enough to win teh 2008 AL POTY award. Don't know if my rookie SP who has ROTY locked up will win it. John Williams my #2 SP or a SP from another team. Kyp finished with a .260 OPP AVG. About 52 points higher then his career avg. After 6 season he will retire with the most wins, K and lowest single season and career ERA. 3 POTY, possibly a 4th but doubtful. POTY award will also be renamed in his honor until 2015. i am expecting to get swept in the WS since even as great as Kyp has been in a normal season Glenbard owns him in the 4 WS we have played vs each other. He is 2-6 5.76 vs them in WS play.

I feel a little weird commenting on this player.

I do want a player who sends me into a state of shock when his ERA+ DROPS to 146, though.

I think I figured out what was wrong. Under League Setup - Strategy, the left side said 1978 which is accurate but the right side said 2008 which normally they both match. So I am thinking that I had hitting and pitching modifiers from 2008 vs 1978. Kyp would have finished 2nd in the POTY voting but I knocked hm down to 3rd. I gave the award to a guy who went 27-14 2.87, 2nd place went to a closer with a 1.35 ERA 43 saves.

Others have commented on it, improve that defense man! Anytime a pitcher has a BABIP above .305 you can expect his ERA to shoot up.

Though his K/9 was slightly down and his BB/9 was up (though he walks no one) his H/9 were up 30% over career average and most of that is probably related to poor defense.

Doing fine, but still having issues with Minor League pitching. Every league is full offense even the Carolina

I was the same way. Not use to seeing this unrealistic of superstars in any league I've played in.

Well, hold on with the "unrealistic" part. I'm pretty sure that a Jedi Master (and one with such an awesome name, at that) could do some funky things to opposing hitters. Mental games + ability to move the ball after it leaves the hand = dominance.

Kyp Durron - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki

There are rules in place to prevent Jedi from affecting what happens on the field. Many speculate that this is ineffective since every Jedi in the EBL is a HOFer.
Ysalamir - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki
gloves are made of Ysalamir hide. Ysalamir run around every EBL park.. all bats are dipped in Ysalamir piss. balls are Yslamir hide.
I had too much time on my hand.

It all depends on your LTM settings. If they've been modern-day type settings throughout, then you won't get many guys with 300+ wins, mainly because of reliever use. But, I have a league that I'm working on simming 100 years with before taking over a team (done with simming 20 years so far), starting in 1910 with 1910 settings and importing the new settings each year (so right now it's on 1930 settings as I'm in my 21st season). In those 20 years, despite 5 man rotations each year, there are 3 pitchers with 300+ wins and two that have had 30 win seasons.

I appreciate the link to Kyp DURRON's Wookieepedia page.

Either I've been WAY too subtle about my screenname in our discussions about the Jedi Master Durron, or you posted that link for the education of others, in which case I'll feel silly now.

I seriously never realized that JMDurron meant Jedi Master Durron. I was thinking John Michael Durron. So have you had him in your leagues? How has he done?

Nah, I just play MLB Quickstart or MLB Historical, with no fictional players. All Red Sox, all the time.

I should find a custom character mod as him for when I play Rebellion again, though.
