Help from Stats only guys out there...
Ok I am looking for a good challenge and want to try and play in a stats-only league and am not really sure how to run this and set it up.
I don't play real leagues at all so I am going to go fictional, 24 team, 2 league and 3 divisions league. Here is what I am not 100% sure about. If I create the league, I need to have stats to go on and scouting and whatnot but I dont want to have super huge amount of years in the league before I start playing. So how do you guys do the set up? Do you sim 25 years to weed out all the fictional guys and then pick a team and delete history or do you start with a fresh build and go from there? Sim 5 seasons and use that? Any help would be awesome, I really want to try and do this because I want to play a more realistic style of ball. Thanks in advance for all the help you guys can give. |

I prefer to start with an MLB league so I know the players a little bit for the first few years. I also prefer to play with high school and college feeders for stats only fictional league. By the time I am 7-10 seasons in I have a pretty good feel for the fictional players and I can still tell you, years later, who some of the stars were in previous leagues. In fact as I get older I get confused and I wasted a few minutes yesterday looking for Mitch Berry, a switch-hitting outfielder who I remembered playing for the Expos. (He exists only in OOTP.)
I don't like to do the sim-25-years-and-erase thingy and as I understand it, it is really no longer necessary. I always start with the Braves and play them to the point where all the real players are gone and the whole league is fictional, which takes about 20-25 seasons until 42yo Bryce Harper or Jason Heyward retires. Then I start over. |

If you use stats only, how do you have any idea of potentials? I am going through my scouts and whatnot but there is little mention of how good they 'could" be. do you have potential ratings on?

I did that before I posted and there was a lot of talk one way and another. I was looking for a couple of people I could ask questions to in my own thread if I have questions but thanks anyways
I also looked through a few of the topics and not much said about potentials that I saw though I didn't go through them all to be honest with you. I get the scouting reports and the stats idea but how do you determine the potentials of players? Just go by a stat guy and he is under 25 and has 2 good seasons in AAA, he should be ok and try it out? I just find that the scouting that the game gives you is limited for future. All the guys I looked at, it all talked about them hitting in the majors right now but guys that are in AA and A ball, I don't really need to know what they can do in the majors right now, I need to know what they can do at their level and what their future might hold. Is that something I just have to try and work with or do the Stats only guys use potentials. 1-5, 20-80 or something? stars even? |
