Spring Training/Rehab Assignment

Situation:

Veteran player with 12+ years of ML experience was injured all of previous season. Was ready to play with 3 days of Spring Training left. The option to send him for a rehab assignment was available. However, I still wanted to play him in Spring Training.

But, upon putting him on the Active Roster, the rehab assignment is no longer available.

Is this in line with MLB rules, or is it just one of those little things not accounted for in the game?

BTW, this guy (a light hitting middle infielder) ended up cracking a HR in his first at bat on opening day to tie the game. No complaints.

This follows MLB rules. He can't play in the majors (even if it's just spring training) and then start a rehab assignment...
