real lineups

Hi I am new to the game and have a question about a replay I'm doing. I am 20 games into a 1979 replay where I am playing all of the Orioles games and the computer is handling all the other teams. I have the active roster at 25 with no limit to reserve list. I am the commissioner and league is set to use real historical lineups and real transactions. My question is, do I need to set any other options for this to happen. Half the teams that play my orioles don't use the historical lineup for that day. In fact, sometimes the players needed are on the reserve list. Do I need to actively manage all the other rosters during the season make sure someone with 150 innings pitched doesn't remain on the reserve list all year? Is there any settings I may have missed that will allow the AI to move players back and forth or is the opening 25 man roster going to be the same all year? I really love this game and any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It should work as shown below. I notice, though, that it asks for these options when you create the game and you see it loading transactions and lineups databases. Turning these options on after the fact may not work as well, if that's what you did.

Anyway, that's all I got. You may find some tips in this thread:

Roster size has to be set at No Limit. Otherwise, a player may be inaccessible because he's been assigned to the Reserve Roster.

To add to pstrickert's post, OOTP does not have a database for disabled list transactions. So, while the game can use real lineups and transactions, it does not know when players were placed on the DL, and it may not have all transactions for minor league promotions, demotions, or rehab assignments.

So all the game can do is start each game with the real lineups, assuming that you've chosen the settings correctly from the beginning, and thereafter you may see deviations. The primary instance is players coming into the game as substitutes or pinch hitters when they may have been on the DL in real life.

Thanks to all that responded, I did indeed set up the real transactions and lineups from the beginning. The active is set at 25 tho. Im not sure if that is keeping some of the lineups from not loading unless if 1 person wasn't on the roster it reverts to the saved lineup page. I have to go back and check. An example is it wouldn't play Sal Bando at 3rd when I played the brewers and it kept selecting Cliff Johnson over Thurman Munson at catcher for the Yankees. In fact Munson wasn't even on the active roster.

My question on the unlimited rosters is this: After the game has started, will the AI then use everyone on the roster against my human controlled team? I would hate to get to the 8th and 9th inning and the AI bring in a different pitcher to match ever batter I send up. And by extension would the simmed games be at the same risk? I have played other games that do this. They want to get everyone their innings and ab's in. So I would end up facing 35 players while I have access to my 25 that I use.

Again thanks to a great community

I don't typically play in this mode, so I can't give you definitive information but I believe the AI can technically violate the usual roster rules and can technically use players in a game that it might not have been able to use in real life. However, the AI doesn't typically use a bunch of specialty pitchers for matchups or anything like that, especially with the historical strategy settings. So I don't know that it would be much of an issue. And if the roster size is unlimited, then you could have the same advantage if desired.
