World.xml - Differences in modern and historical us names?
Tough I've used the era name file mods available before I wanted to make some tweaks with the name generating in the world.xml for the league i'm currently running.
(I'm doing this in game using the nations editor.) Basically, what type of differences would I see when using US historical and US modern for names? I'm actually considering going to go with a mixture of the two. Let's say 2-1 modern to historical, and some tweaks to the rest of the ethnicities to get the mix I want. *I could go ahead and look at this stuff myself and figure it out but, heck, why not ask those who know better. But I also figure some of the other people on the board would like this information.

You'll see what you'd expect: in the historical nameset, you will see mostly Anglo names and a lot of older style first names that were more common in the early decades of baseball. Think Cyrus Murphy and John Grant.
With the modern nameset, you see more 'ethnic' names and first names that have become popular in recent years, and it will resemble more of what you see in the contemporary MLB. Think Tanner Wilson and Guillermo Gutierrez. However, keep in mind that modifying both the world_default.xml file and your ethnicities file can be critical in getting the blend that you want. Even if you use the historical nameset, the distribution of ethnicities is not accurate. I tend to adjust my ethnicities file to reflect the estimated U.S. ethnic populations as of 1900 or whatever year I'm starting. OOTP tends to create too many non-Caucasian players for historical leagues and too many 'ethnic' names, so this requires adjusting the ethnicities file. Some people even edit their first names and last names files to create more accuracy. Last edited by Charlie Hough; 06-28-2013 at 12:55 PM. |

This is in my created league so I'm assuming this will adjust the world.dat file in my league and not mess with the world.xml. I really don't want to mess with that.
This is for my DC Universe league starting in 1934. I've changed all of the cities in the U.S. with populations over 250,000 to their fictional counterparts. I've also used some other fictional places such as Jericho, Kansas etc. As for the names the default for the US is the ratio of 2400 US Modern, 420 Hispanic and 2 for 34 other ethnicities. I tweaked this I believe to 2400 Modern, 1200 Historical, decreased hispanic somewhat and boosted others a little bit for the immigrant populations in this era. (Italian, German, Irish etc.) I didn't boost those because I assume alot of these will be covered in the Modern and Historical names.

Here is the league I'm working on. There'll be some tweaks to the minors and stuff. I will say this though. I am not a huge/giant comic book fan but I do like them so my details may not be considered accurate. My young kids love the Justice League and I figured i could get immersed in it.
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...eys-logos.html I guess, technically there are no counterparts since over the years alot of real cities have ben mentioned. But this is a fictional league so I took some liberties. And most of the DC cities have been addressed in certain locations. This is off the top of my head with a little cheating... Metropolis I created as a new city. Gotham City = New York City (moved to across Delaware Bay from Metropolis) Keystone City = St. Louis Civic City = Philadelphia Empire City = Boston Opal City = Baltimore Leesburg = Richmond Fawcett City = Indianapolis Hub City = Chicago Midway City = Detroit Central City = Kansas City Dos Rios = Houston Coast City = San Diego Star City = Los Angeles Mesa City = Phoenix Some I renamed for the alternate world such as D.C. = Federal City, Atlanta = Sherman , Oklahoma City = Sequoyah, other's I pulled from other fictions / alternates.
