Does the AI have any idea I'm offering it a player in the last year of his contract?
Obviously AI takes into account the size of the contract, but doesn't seem to know the player im offering is an impending free agent. Am I wrong?

I'm not sure I entirely understand the question. Do you mean when it comes to the decision to sign or not?

No, I mean when I'm looking to trade a player in the last year of his contract to an AI controlled team, does that AI team take into account the fact that they may be getting a 3 month rental and offer me assets accordingly?

It seems to recognize this. I've never successfully dealt a good/star player under those circumstances. Not realistic at all.

of course the real life challenge with this is generally a team would not make a deal like that- unless they just give junk and a draft pick, is they have to feel they have a decent chance of signing the player- otherwise they have just rented him for a few months and perhaps lost some minor league depth
that could be hard to code in, to decide the chance of signing the player long term and add that percentage into wanting to make the deal i think sometimes we all get caught on wanting ootp to be perfect, but when we consider how many millions of decisions are happening in a split second of real time within the game itself on various levels i guess we can see that some may not be in the game |

I have, and it could be realistic. If it's a pennant competing team and they're giving me prospects in return. I've done this before at the deadline. I'm guessing he meant before the deadline, unless I'm misreading it.

It was somewhat tongue in cheek, but on the serious side I see no evidence that a team in contention has a module that let's them deal for an expiring contract at the deadline. Is that dependent on the trade settings? Don't know.
