Exclamation Nickname Help

I'm starting my own fictional league and decided on the team locations, but now I need to come up with nicknames for several teams. I am looking to get some help from all of you. I would like to try to avoid nicknames that are already used with that city, for example, Louisville Cardinals. I would like the nicknames to relate to the cities as much as possible. Here are the teams I need help with:

Portland (Oregon)
Salt Lake
Santa Fe
Madison
Louisville
Memphis
Buffalo (might go with the obvious here)
Jacksonville
New Orleans (Jazz or Voodoo?)
Las Vegas (may do the obvious here as well)

Let me know what you think. I will also be lloking for logos, so if anyone can direct to a good place to find logo (besides Google image finder) that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Living near Buffalo, I KNOW that the name should refer to snow... Blizzard, Whiteouts, Squalls, Drifts?

A lot of people get logos here

I'll just do the the places I've been to.

Portland Cascades (Cascade Mountains that are responsible for Portland being the microbrewery capital of the nation.)

Salt Lake ?? Give them something generic and baseball I guess

Santa Fe Banditos

Memphis Hound Dogs (Elvis reference)

New Orleans Hurricanes (after the mixed drink invented there)

Las Vegas Revolvers (there's naming a lot of stuff after the old west there lately)

Louisville Twin Spiers(reference to Churchill Downs, don't know if I spelled it right) or something horse related. Living just south in Lexington I realize just how important the horse industry is in this state.

Portland Beavers

Louisville Lips (Ali! Ali! Ali!)

Memphis Lees (after Tom Lee, Memphis' "greatest hero", who single-handedly saved 32 people from drowning when a steamer sank despite the fact he couldn't swim)

Las Vegas Bets

I also like Sante Fe Express, Buffalo Blizzard

Re: Nickname Help

Portland Timbers
Santa Fe Coyotes or Roadrunners or Buzzards (in my solo league I have the Albuquerque Paints - a reference to the ponies Native Americans rode. That would work as a double reference to the very art-oriented Santa Fe)
Madison Sturgeons
Louisville Thunder (thundering sound derived from the hooves of racing horses)
Memphis Mafia (a reference to Elvis' posse, the sunglasses and mohair suit wearing Memphis Mafia)
Buffalo Blizzard
New Orleans Revelers (a stretch, better than the New Orleans Chest Baring Coeds!)
Las Vegas Snake Eyes (I have the Reno team with the same nickname in my solo league, works for Vegas as well)

Let me know if you like 'em or use 'em! I'd be interested to know if someone liked my ideas.

Re: Nickname Help

As the Overlord of my Universal Baseball Association, I have teams in Portland, Salt Lake City, Memphis and New Orleans, with expansion hopefuls in Buffalo, Vegas and Jacksonville.

Portland Pioneers are my club, named in part for J. Henry Waugh's UBA Pioneers but put in Portland because of Pioneer Square, Pioneer Courthouse and the like. I also like the names Lumberjacks, Timberkings and Predators for Portland.

Salt Lake City Storm, brand new to the UBA this season (1965, our 35th year). I also like the Utes, an old nickname for residents of the state, and also an amusing reference to the movie "My Cousin Vinny"

Santa Fe Chiefs, named for the AT&SF premiere passenger train of the 30s and 40s

Louisville Sluggers is my pick here, same as rockpile

Memphis Monarchs joined the UBA in a 4-team expansion in '58 and named for the obvious.

Buffalo Blizzard hoped to join the UBA this season but were passed over in favor of geographical realignment.

Jacksonville Smugglers were a team in my fictional United Football League and might do here as well.

New Orleans Blues are one of my original UBA teams and one of the top contenders each year for the Confederate League East title.

Las Vegas Perfectos were part of my pre-OOTP UBA but after starting over from year I, we haven't come to the point where Vegas joins the UBA yet. I also like Bandits (as in the one-armed type) and Gamblers.

I live is Jacksonville. I've often thought that if I had to name a team here i'd call it the Jacksonville Storm.

We have some hella nasty thunderbangers around here.

Portland Wannabes (because that whole city just wants to be Seattle)
Salt Lake City Roofers
the obvious... Louisville Sluggers
Jacksonville Bulls (not aware of any actual bulls in the city outside of the zoo, but this was the nickname of the USFL team in that city)
Memphis Kings (a little more obvious than Monarchs)
Vivas of Las Vegas

Having experienced the traffic that is about forty times worse than here in Portland with only about ten times the population, I think I can count myself out of that group that supposedly wants to be Seattle. Besides, you guys are stuck with the Seapigeons, we're stuck with the Jailblazers...kinda even up there.

I too have the Legends, one of four new teams in the UBA this year. However, they are based in Orlando, Florida.
