Best way to dump this contract (vesting option years)
I have a player who is old, expensive, and needs to go. I have no trade interest so far (it's an online league), but I am in the last year of his guaranteed contract. There are two more vesting option years each if he plays 100 games.
I was trying to figure out how best to move him. While he has the option to refuse a minor league assignment, he has option years left so no chance of a waiver wire pickup. So I went back to the vesting options. I haven't ever dealt with vesting options on a per-game basis in OOTP, so I ask this: He's not yet at 100 games. How best do I make it so he doesn't hit 100 games? Is it best to just release him at some point before 100 games and then I'd only be hit for this years contract? Or is there an "official" way to handle this? Thanks! |

I guess you could also use the "bench player for X days" feature, depending on how badly you need the roster spot. In any case, just try sending him down to the minors several times, sometimes they will accept. Though I don't know whether games in the minors count for vesting options.
