Simming Spring Training

I used to just sim all the way through Spring Training (I played all of my regular seasons out) but didn't like the way my pitchers and sometimes hitters were being handled, so I started playing out Spring Training, which really isn't much fun.

So I'm going to try to put the players I want in, and then sim say 4 innings, and then make the changes I want. Is there any way to make sure the in game AI while simming those innings won't change out ANY of my players (except, of course, with injury or ejection)???

Yes, if you set substitutions to be controlled by you the AI will only sub for injuries and ejections. Beware of rain delays, though they generally don't happen in the Spring Ballpark.

Thank you. I'm going to give this a try.

Well, in case anyone else is interested, it doesn't work.

I wanted my regulars and starting pitcher to go 5 innings, simmed to the 6th, and like always in Spring Training, the AI replaced the starting pitcher after 4. No injury, no ejection, he was just replaced. I think I remember trying before and having the same result which is why I reverted to playing it out.

*sigh*

Hum, well it works for me (in the regular season anyway). I suppose you need to hit "Inning" 5 times rather than "Until 6th" once.

Yeah, I think it's because it's spring training.

I got to the 7th inning, had everyone I wanted in the game to finish, and hit "Game" to finish the game, and not only did the AI sub another pitcher in with 2 outs in the 9th (again, no injury, ejection, etc.), it also pinch hit for four of my batters, whom I wanted to get the at bats.

Frustrating.

I don't... try it with the "Inning" button instead.

I think I've got something going now.

I start the game, sim to the 5th, and then play out the rest making my subs when I want and for whom I want. This does indeed shorten the game and makes it go faster, so I can live with this.

On an unrelated note, the Sopranos dude died. That's just messed up. His name was James Gandolfini or something like that. Memory sucks. Though I'm not sure of his real name, I am sure he was the Sopranos dude. He was younger than I am.

Yes, the AI in spring training works differently than in the regular season, in order to give more players playing time. SPs get taken out after 4 innings. Fielders get 3 plate appearances and are then pinch-hit for.

Well, just in case anyone else is interested, I know I said above I had something going by simming until the 5th and then playing it out which shortened the game.

However, this doesn't always work either. Three times in the last 8 games the AI has changed the starting pitcher during those first couple of innings because he gave up X amount of runs.

I don't care how many runs he gave up, I want the INNINGS for him.

Frustrating. Very very frustrating.

Either give us more control over substitutions in spring training OR remove the penalty for rust at the beginning of the year for those that didn't get enough AB's or IP in Spring Training.

Meanwhile my SPs are going 6 and 7 innings easily in spring training by me hitting "Inning" instead of "Until 6th" ... but go ahead and ignore my advice.

What the heck??

I haven't said or done anything personal to you, yet this?

I think the game should allow us to sim multiple innings without changes.

But apparently that's far too much too ask.

Players shouldn't ask for such things and instead change their desires to meet what's there.

FWIW I did try one inning at a time, and twice doing that a pitcher was changed who got shelled in that inning. But of course that's all my fault.

Ok, I will ignore your advice from now on.
