Random Debut

How does this work in a fictional league? I assume it will be real players from across MLB, and they will debut in the league randomly (not in the particular year they appear in real life)? How many real players will appear each year? Is there a way to set this? If it's a mixture of real/fictional players, is there a list of real players that are in the league? I've never messed with it, but I'd consider it in a fictional setting.

These are great questions. Unfortunately, neither game setup nor online manual is specific enough to provide answers. Only players who have done as you suggest would know. Or, perhaps you will run a few test leagues and inform us? I would love to know the answers. Perhaps I will try doing this myself with my next fictional league.

I created a fictional league to test it out, and it looks like the random debut feature disappears? Maybe it's only available for historical?

You have to set your database path. League setup - Options? Copy and paste the stats folder line from your OOTP folder using ctrl-c and ctrl-v (not the mouse) I have had 2 random debut fictional leagues. Neither of which I have played in some time, I can not tell you how many ficitonal players there are. 2000 everyone was fictional. 2000 Ammy draft 15 rounds. I drafted Ernie Banks, Wilson Alvarez, Scott Radinsky & Shawn Abner to name a few. i belive the game still created fictional FA after my 2000 season That league is stuck in March of 2001. The other league I deleted.

In a fictional league, the option appears here (scroll down a bit) - I believe it's the same idea. Note the database path selection box that The Game talked about.

Ok, I had not done that. I just did the database path, that's something I assumed it auto completed (seems like it would if you were using random debut). I'll try it and run some tests. Thanks for the help guys. Looks like it will start with fictional players, and the drafted players will be random debut. Sound right?

Yes. Let us know, will you? I usually play historical fictional, which means the MLB history with fictional players. But how cool would it be to occasionally see a Honus Wagner pop up, say, in the 1980's? The question is, how many historical players will appear? And don't forget that a large majority of them will probably be guys you never heard of and for good reason.

I just ran a test two year, and stopped at the 2nd year when draft pool is published. I'm not seeing real players. I'll keep messing. I think you do this with a historical league, the draft is in November. I have it set for June. Think that makes a difference?

It's funny you said this because the online manual has this caution:
Quote:
Note: If you are importing historical players, you might want to schedule your first-year player draft between October and November. Otherwise, your rookies might make their major league debuts a year earlier than you expected!
I don't know if it has any bearing on your situation or not.

You do have the Import historical Rookies box AND Random Debut both checked dont you? RD wont work without both checked..

With both boxes checked and a Gambo or Spritze DB loaded here is my draft class for 2000 test rD league.

Nope, I sure don't. I did not because it says "auto import "real" historical rookies", I thought that would be that draft class from that year. I just had random debut checked. Thanks.

That did the trick. Got a draft class of real players.

And it looks like every player I click on has "real life stats". 24 teams, 15 round draft.
