Question Your TB2013 Needs You.....

Can you guys help out?

I noticed this morning that the official manual is still for version 2! I think it desperately needs some TLC.

http://www.pisd.co.uk/tbcb/TB2%20Manual.pdf

As you can probably guess I am rushed off my feet with the release, tech support and fixing some remaining issues in the game. Soon I hope to start of the Android and iOS versions. So it struck me that you guys are perfectly placed to assist with this.

What I am thinking is, someone would act as the main coordinator and create the new manual document. Then people can volunteer to do a paragraph at a time when they feel they have some spare time to donate.

We can use the TB2 manual as a template to work from which will make life easier as its simply a case of modifying any bits that have changed.

Who amongst us is able to assist with this, and in what capacity?

I am willing to help where I can although I don't have the time to be the main coordinator I'm afraid.

That manual was superseded by the 2.5 on-line manual which ceased to be linked properly after the board issue last year - I'm sure Andreas still has it, it just is so infrequently used that no one has noticed in the year or so since it went off line.

I will try to track that down.. I guess no-one needed it as TB2.5 has been out a while an everyone was familiar with it. As TB2013 and then TB3 grow we are gonna need an up to date manual. I have already received requests for one..

Unfortunately, aside from the fact that I work all day then come home to a wife, kids and three dogs who want all my remaining time, I don't have any way of editing a pdf file. I can read it easily enough though.

Whoever is working on this document should be really knowledgeable about the workings of the game, and should probably go through the older document and only make changes to it to update it rather than rewriting it.

In another two years or so I'll have plenty of free time for projects like this.

Sorry, Chris. When I read your "It's stickied right here" I assumed you meant you'd recovered it and relocated it yourself.

The reason I said "re-write" is because the pdf is read only. I do not have the source text.

That's the pdf for the 2.0 manual (same one Paul posted in the OP). The 2.5 manual was on line. No idea if it was nuked or if the link was just broken - Andreas will need to sort it out.

I have email Andreas, so soon as he finds it I will host it. However this is now out of date so we will need some work doing... Any one up for being the main coordinator?

As it happens my Linux box has a very useful set of command line tools to deal with PDF's. It has allowed me to convert the TB2 Manual into an html file, see here:
www.pisd.co.uk/tbcb/TB2Manual/

This means its a cut/paste and change jobs now

I was sure I downloaded the 2.5 manual, but I can't find it. I was able to convert the 2.0 from pdf to rtf so it can be edited in Word.

Dunno why, but I've a feeling I'm gonna regret this, but here goes....lol

I am disabled, so am at home 99% of the time. I am also fairly sure that Open Office can create PDF files, or something similiar & am checking into that right now as I install it on this computer.

IF I can do the PDF's, I will open my big mouth and offer to do the coordinating of this project for you.

Another option as well:

I can create video FAQ's with software I have left over from when I owned and produced a live online TV channel that reported on the Occupy Movement a while back. Or perhaps even a video manual......but first the PDF, then the video afterwards if you wish.

Good news:

Open Office (open source answer to windows office) can create .pdf files, so if you want me, we're in business.

I'm still going to need help with writing the chapters, or this will take forever...lol

So, Cap, Bob, Javier, since you're so enthusiastic, I sure do hope you'll lend a hand...

I will also be including screenshots of the game in the manual to make it easier for the new user. They're the ones that will really need the document after all, us jaded old timers can do most things intuitively...:P
