Bench Coach - at all necessary?
I'm just wondering if the Bench Coach really impacts the team in any tangible way. I had a Bench Coach who wanted some extravagant extension, so I let him walk. I never replaced him, so have gone 2 seasons without one.
Is there any reason to blow $300-400K annually on a Bench Coach? I just can't see the need. But would love to know if I'm harming anything but just not using one -- ? |

I would say it should be. The truth is the "staff" system in OOTP needs an overhaul.

Bench Coach
Bench coaches are responsible for helping the manager handle his responsibilities, especially during actual games. Bench coaches have some impact on all areas of play, including fielding. You have the option of delegating decision-making authority to your bench coach when playing out a game. A bench coach's coaching ratings affect the play and affect the play and development of players on his specific team. |

I try to always have the BC either be a former player of that team or a retired favorite player. Right now my BC is Dave Magadan. I had Ozzie Guillen in 2003. I will promote Ryne Sandberg from AAA after 2006. None of them have great ratings. I edited ozzie in 2004 when I manually put him on the Sox. I am 32-4.

from what I have gathered they do help other coaches with hitting and pitching as well as handling vets and rookies. It does appear to play a role in how the team plays for you.

it would be nice to know how all the coaching ratings effect one another. if your manager or bench coach have decent ratings for say, teaching hitting. does that help the hitting coach and team in any way? or are those stats just meaningless and ignored by the game? does the GM's scouting rating help the scouting staff? does it help with evaluating talent in trades?
