arbitration money
I was just wondering where the money for arbitration is used from. Is it the money used for extensions or the free agent money available? Thanks.

Both are reduced by the amounts of arbitration awards.

No, you can still offer arbitration. If it puts you in the hole, it puts you in the hole.
I have first hand-experience with that one. I was unable to make even a major-league minimum free agent offer, but I was still able to offer arbitration. |

I'm pretty sure arbitration estimates are included in your "money for extensions". I don't remember if it includes players who *may* be arbitration eligible (i.e. between 2-3 years service time); it may only include players who are already arbitration eligible.
If you offer an arb. eligible player an extension, I'm pretty sure there's a place on the contract offer screen that will tell you how much you'll have left over for extensions if the contract is signed. So try offering him exactly what his arb. estimate is and see if your money for extensions changes. I'd try myself but I don't have the game in front of me right now. |

The estimates come off your budget until the vaues are awarded and those values are put in your budget. A few things to note
- Arbitration is guaranteed for 3-5 year players and can be used even if it puts you over budget - If you sign a player to an extension lower than his estimate you will gain that budget room - Any player in years 1-5 as long as you didnt sign an extension manually can be relased between the end of the WS and arbitration hearings for $0 and even if you 0 out their offer to use that budget room prior to FA (for a trade) you must release the player so that estimate is off your budget. |
