Home Team Manages Games vs Visiting Game File
Online Leagues should have the ability to allow the home team to play a game "live" using the team file that his opponent posted for league play. Same feature used now, with teams uploading their team files to the league server, but home team managers would be able to play their games by hand and use the visiting teams uploaded team strategy, lineup, rotations, etc.
The Strategic Baseball Simulator (SBS) allowed this but without the game strategy settings. |

many years ago (like 16-18 years ago) I was in a league ISBL (Internet Simulation Baseball League) using a game called Diamond Mind (It's still around) and a program that allows someone to take control of your desktop and that league played it's games head to head Live whenever possible. When you couldn't play live we played them as you spoke of with the Home Team playing out the games using the Visiting teams strats/lineups and depth charts. It was a pretty cool league at the time.
There is also a game out there which is a derivative of Pursue the Pennant called Dynasty baseball which has a head to head Engine but the catch is they charge you $15 a month AND they only have 20 full Historical seasons available or the Greatest 64 teams in History. I believe it is a total online environment(no downloads) It plays through your browser, which is awesome until you don't have internet access and feel like knocking out a few games! I for one don't like just one team having real time control while another has to use a file with their info. You either go full blown Head to Head in a real time environment or just do it all simulation. I think It gives the team that is actually playing out the games way too much of an advantage and opens the doors for too many problems in a online league environment to do it the way you suggest. All in all, pound for pound, dollar for dollar OOTP is far and above the Not only the best game on the market, but the best value for your Money....It looks better, It plays better and It has an unbelieveable following that makes stuff for free for you to use that other companies would package into a download and charge you $9.99 or more for. Just look through the Mod section of the Forum for thousands of examples

I am with you Rhett 100%. Obviously Head to Head would be preferred in any case.

I double and triple that nod and very well spoken... There is really nothing better than OOTP I tried other games as well but OOTP knocks them out of the park every time its tried.

A very long time ago I was in a Microleague uhm... league, where the home team played out the games. It was an interesting and fun idea, but the season ended in controversy when Team A visited Team B for a four game set with a three game lead, and of course Team B swept them.
Interesting idea, but would need some sort of safety to prevent cheating. Even then, as Painmantle said, it would seem to give the home team an enormous advantage in flexibility. |
