Help! Historical Replay Team Sucks!
Ok, so my Rangers historical replay is not going well. The first season we went 80-82 which I thought was fine but we were projected to win 87 games and I got a "1" GM rating (Im playing with historical transactions on and basically just managing).
I won't spoil this year for those following the dynasty but were on pace to lose over 100 games this year. I think 90% of my guys are performing under their RL stats. My one change that I made was picking up a little known reliever that has been solid in the bullpen, but mostly everyone else has sucked. I'm not sure what I can do to turn things around. I'm only simulating games and adjusting lineups as I thought the sim could give me similar player results to real life but that hasn't happened. I don't really want to play out every game but I could play out more if that would make a difference. Maybe it is just statistical variance and maybe my guys will overperform next year (some did last year) but I'm worried by two straight years of winning less than we did in real life even though I played the better performers more. Any thoughts or suggestions?

why not try to manage the game itself instead of AI ??? you might do something different than AI such as take a chance to advance or keep a pitcher in for an out or inning longer.

If you use the instant play-by-play speed option, you can manage games very quickly. You have to be careful, though, because you can get into a groove and accidentally hit a key too quickly and forget to pinch hit for someone or use a different strategy.
If you're using real life transactions, your teams will perform largely as they did in real life. Yes, there will be variation, and mathematically that can be much more significant than people realize. But simply changing lineups and using some different strategies probably won't give you 10 or 15 more wins than you would have had otherwise. If it was that easy, real life MLB teams wouldn't be as bad as some of them are. |

If you choose to keep historical transactions on for a team that went 77-85 and then 69-92 and then 62-99, then you shouldn't expect to be overcoming the moves that led to 7 more losses a season
![]() Managing games would probably help some, but that isn't gonna turn a 60 win team into a 90 win team

Yeah, you're right. I guess my problem in 83 was that the "season predictions" had us going 87-75 even though they went 77-85 in real life. We actually did over perform based on RL and went 80-82. However, because of the game's "judging" of performance I got a "1" GM rating which made me feel life a failure.
This season (84) I knew we were going to fall off but I figured if I could increase our wins from 69 to 70-75 and that I'd be ok. However, we're likely going to lose 10+ more games than in real life which is a drastic swing in the opposite direction. What is making it worse is that soooo many players are under performing compared to real life. Of course, if it goes back in the opposite direction next year and 90% of my guys over perform then I'll be ok ![]() Another thing that I noticed, which is part of the issue, is that team strategy and even player strategy sliders have little to no effect in some areas. I tried setting my team strategy to one notch from "never" on stealing bases and I had two guys with 40+ last year, one of which was only successful about 60%. I even changed their player settings to that and they would still steal (and get caught) more than I wanted. I've also notice that my SP's get left in longer than I would like even though I've moved the team and player settings toward the quick hook side (+2 or 3 from the left). Obviously that would be corrected if I play the games out but even if they only take 10 minutes a game I still don't have 27 hours to play through each season.

![]() And on the individual player strategy, right about the SB slider is a dropdown box. Make sure to set it to Override Team Strategies |

For the team strategy I chose set it for all scenarios or whatever it is listed as. I also changed the drop down. Like I said, still not much of an effect. The pitching somewhat but the SB almost none.

Another problem I'm having is that Larry Parrish can't stay healthy. H played 301 games in 83-84 in real life but has only played 107 for me in those two seasons in game. His injury history is "normal" but he's playing like he's fragile which he wasn't even in real life.
