Fictional League 101

Hey guys,

I have always sturggled with setting up fictional leagues and making universes in this game. Is there a guide to it, some kind of 'Idiots guide to making a his fantasy baseball universe a reality'?

I mean, there are all these options. What does it all mean

A

Yeah I would say throw out any questions you have about fictional leagues. This forum is full of helpful an knowledgable people.

I will try to answer what I can also, I play only fictional league. Here are a few things I suggest...

Set up your league the way you want it and have a year in mind that you want to play in. When you start the league, it will ask you what starting year you want to use. I suggest backdating it 25 years and simulate.

1) Do you typically use feeder leagues for your amateur draft?

2) After I sim 25 years, should I "delete all league history" and "PLayer Service time"?

3) 24 team league (2 sub leagues, 3 divisions per league, 4 teams per division)...how many games per season would you suggest?

I stick with the 162 games no matter what league I use.

Still trying to figure feeder leagues out to be honest with you so that I have no idea.

Yes to delete all league stats because of the initial player creation is a little wonky. Up to you for the service time. If you do delete, you might not have a lot of free agents for a couple of seasons so that might not be the right path in my opinion.

Yeah. I was checking out that thread about the feeder league issue and weakness of draft classes.

Well, I just set up a 2 league/2 sub division 24 team fictional league with one minor league (aaa) and a college feeder sety to start in 1919, just finished the inaugral draft.

The feeder league is a bit bigger then the main league to make sure there is a surplus of players.

I have picked the settings that are supposed to replicate 1919 stats and then update as i go on (I think).

Didn't think about simming 25years, just about to get right into it. Are the consequences particularly dire if i do?

I have all the leage evoloution things on, the idea being to let the game expand itself a little (will probably add more minors in later - would this casue a screw up too?)

Really what I was trying to do was create a semi realistic 1919 type of league and play it out atleast to the 50's.

GOOD IDEA

NOT DIRE NO, I JUST FOUND THAT THE PLAYERS WERE ALWAYS MUCH BETTER IN THE INITIAL DRAFT THAN THEY ARE WHEN THINGS SETTLE DOWN OVER TIME

I HAVE PLAYED WITH THAT ON, DOESNT HAPPEN TOO OFTEN OVERALL. I RAN A SIM FOR 130 YEARS AND I THINK IT EXPANDED TWICE AND RELOCATED TEAMS A FEW TIMES AS WELL

Really what I was trying to do was create a semi realistic 1919 type of league and play it out atleast to the 50's.

I'm actually setting up a game (United States Baseball League) that will probably start in 2013 after I sim from like 1980-2012. Each team is based in a states capital city, if that state's capital has a MLB team (Denver, Atlanta, Boston), I didn't even consider their state for a team.

Cool sounding league. I think more people should set up leagues and get them onto OOTPMODS.com if we can

The only other question would be, if i expand the league (and add more minor leagues possible), presumabley I would need to expand the feeder leagues too. Would this cause any kind of calamities I should be prepared for?

No, I dont think so. I would also suggest making sure that you backup the league before doing anything to your league.

Also if you find that your feeder leagues are a good size for your league now, then expand accordingly. Make sure you always have enough

For my 16 team ABF I have 4 levels of minors no Feeders for now. I plan on introducing Feeders when I get closer to 30 - 32 teams. I also have a 12-14 team Indy American League but in this version of my ABF it has yet to come in, as of 2006. I plan on bringing it in in 2010 to either become a 2nd ML and merge with the ABF forming the MLB or I will just bring in 4-8 teams.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.
