Can I transfer funds from "$ for Free Agents" to "..., Year(s) 2+"

Hi guys, I'm new to this game. I am in the offseason and I'm trying to sign a few free agents. It says I have about 15 mil in the "$ for Free Agents" category but I can't sign the big free agents because they all want multi-year deals and when I try to offer them that, it says my owner blocks it because I cannot afford the 2nd year of the deal.
"Your projected payroll in year 2 of the contract is higher than the projected budget, by $.........."
And when I try offering one-year deals, they wouldn't accept it.
Then I saw that there is a "$ for Free Agents Year(s) 2+" category underneath the "$ for Free Agents" and it is currently indicating $0. I suspect this is what's preventing me from giving out big salaries in the 2nd year.
Is there a way to fix this? transfer some of the funds from the first category to the 2nd?

I think what is happening is that the game is looking ahead to see how much your roster will cost you te next season. A lot of times, contracts go up in value and this will be a problem later on if you sign deals that grow over time. That could be the reason your 2nd season would be too high.

Another reason is salary arbitration potential. Some guys will have that coming up and could get hit on that too.

Not sure though, I never really thought about it

I don't think you can transfer money over, but you can try to shed salary so that more money is available (obvious answer I know) You may also have an owner who is less willing to spend than others, I would recommend checking on your owner type to see his money spending habits.

Also it depends who you're playing with, seeing as teams are different market sizes and such it could easily depends on the budget of the team based on that. You may not be able to sign big name free agents (like certain MLB teams) and therefore you'll have to adjust!

Nonetheless good luck man! Just a few suggestions.

Thanks guys. I'm Canadian, so naturally, I decided to try and turn the Blue Jays around. And it says that my owner is an economizer, so he probably isn't your typical big money spender. I just find it weird that you'd probably be able to sign a player to an one-year 15 mil contract, but not a 2 year 18 year contract (even when the salaries are the same for years)

By the way, when you win and do well you gain money (or your budget is expanded) So this would also help you in signing bigger name free agents.

You also, if you have cap room COULD trade for them...I mean I dunno just another thought.

Also economizers usually are stingy, so yeah that's probably the culprit.
