Can someone explain this?
I am trying to understand how to interpret current and potential , overall ratings. I have a player in my fictional league who has a current rating as a 3B of 73 and a potential rating of 40. How can this be and what is this telling me about this player? Is it WAD or a bug? I am using AI ratings not pure ratings in setup.
Can someons direct me to a good discussion of the rating system? |

It means he is currently playing at a level of 73, but he is mostly playing over his head and has no more room for growth. How long will this last? I've seen it last for years, but eventually luck will catch up to him and his performance will regress towards his potential ratings.

I think the current evaluation includes performance. So if he is performing above his talent, the number will be higher than his potential.
Not positive though.

If you have scouts on, it may be a combination of the scout not expecting much from him and then him (as others have said) performing way above those expectations. |

There is also an option about whether to ever display potential ratings below current. In general potential less than current means the player is on the decline.
