Thumbs up Act as Manager

Last year we asked for and received act as GM. Thanks! Now we need Act as manager only. The settings should allow i.e. for initiating and reacting to trades to Rick Hahn, not Robin Ventura.

How would you like to have been the Miami manager after that trade last year? Wow.

Basically the only thing you are responsible for is setting lineups and pitching.

I understand you can do this now with the manager, Ventura, but his philosophy is and should be different from Hahn.

The GM should have a different agenda.

How cool would it be to manage and be 3 games out and instead of bringing in talent they pull the rug out for a rebuild?

I couldn't agree more. This is how I play; the only things I control are setting up the lineups and pitching staff.

Don't you still get the messages offering trades even though you are just handling lineups and pitching staff?

Not if you turn trades over to the AI.

I am currently playing a minor league manager where I have no control over trades, etc.

Try going to the manager options page and set the team control settings to turn over everything to the AI that you don't want to do.

Here is a link the pertinent page in the manual with descriptions of each option.

What bothers me about this is the fact that in my game it says that A. Castro is the manager. I want to be the manager, the guy in the dugout.
I want to control the lineups and make in game decisions, not GM (in this case)

I can change those options for moves and such to the GM, which in the game is me, but in order to have the computer do it, I have to set it to A. Castro (AI). This is probably more psychological than anything else but how do I know that this guy that is listed as the manager can do GM stuff?

Does that make any sense? Am I wrong?

Now, I know I saw a button for 'Act as manager' but I think that was in 'Commissioner' mode.

OOTP allows you to "act as manager" in the minor leagues, so that is probably where you saw it.

I can't speak from experience but this might work. Have you tried adding multiple managers to the game, naming one after yourself, and then hiring yourself? After that you should be able to delegate whatever you want.

http://manuals.ootpdevelopments.com/...n_manager_role

Here are the last two paragraphs...

Customizing your Role
Some players don't want all of the responsibility that comes with an OOTP human manager by default. Luckily, OOTP has many options that allow you to customize your management role. In particular, the Manager Optionsscreenallows you to delegate much of your authority to your staff on a temporary or permanent basis.

This means that if you just want to be a general manager and not worry about the day-to-day management, you can do it. If you just want to be a manager and not worry about general management, you can do that, too!

Good luck

Agreed that this can basically be done by changing the settings, but also agree with the OP. I feel like there should be a setting so you can start your own career as a manager.

There should also be an option to act as both roles.

I still would like an "Owner" mode as well. So that you can hire a GM and control the budget. You can be an huge control freak or a laid back owner... But all your info would be on the owner page and no random deaths of human owners.

As others have said, act as manager should mean you are shown as the manager on the team page and have nothing to do with GM stuff.

Also How about incorporating the GM and Owner into the personel screen, or at least the GM so our picture shows...

Wasn't this in OOTP 8 or whatever when it was part of SI? I thought I remember starting out and playing only as a manager... I do agree that this should be an option and hopefully one that can be patched in soon
