Fictional league: financials linked to league strategy??

Financials seem to be tied to league strategy, and are not independent.

In a fictional league in the early 1900's, I'm using 1980 league totals for higher homerun and strikeout numbers. I also tweaked league strategy to use a four-man rotation for more innings for my starting pitchers. The problem is, eventhough my league takes place in the early 1900's (currently 1918), the financials are getting bumped up to 1980-type figures ($910,000 superstar salary, $8.5 million media contract, etc).

I have financials set to "import adjusted financial settings after each year." I did NOT import 1980 league strategy. Like I said, I only tweaked the rotation size and how many relievers are on the staff. That's it.

I tried to re-import financials to 1918 levels, yet the next year in my sim, the financials once again got bumped back up to 1980.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but league totals, league strategy, and financials can all be independent of each other, right? I finally tweaked my league's numbers to what I've been looking for in a fictional league, but these financials refuse to change.

I want to play in the year 1918, with 1918 financials, but with 1980's stats. Should be possible, shouldn't it?

The ONLY progressing options I have selected is:
Import adjusted financial settings after each year

Every other setting is left unchecked.. league strategy, totals modifiers, player-creation modifiers, etc.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this bugged?

Exactly what I've been trying to do... first run at trying some new settings is not looking good.

If I don't get it right soon I'm going to log this as a bug and at least try to get some word from the powers that be if what we want to achieve is possible... however I'm certain it worked in OOTP13 as I started a league in 1871 and reached 1893 with stats similar to the modern day

Yup, I absolutely hate the way this works.

I do the same as you, have stats from 1 year and financials from another, but it doesn't matter what you do. If you go to financial page and select 1920 for finances, it also changes your stats to that year. Go to the totals page and change that to 1980, and it changes your financials also.

These should be independent of each other.

The way I do it now is to hit the button on financials page for the $$$ I want, then hit "print screen" to capture a copy, go to the totals page, hit 1980 (or whatever year I want) then go back and manually adjust each and every financials setting to 1920 reading from my screen capture. A real PITA.

This would be a nice option to have as I'd love to be able to do this with my fictional league as well.

Another option may be to backup all of your league totals and/or financials files and create your own versions with fixed numbers or using numbers from the years you want to use. You can use the original files as the source of all the league information.

This way, your league can involve according to real life trends but using other years for a basis. Or you can set everything to be fixed/static.

Anyone know if this is going to be fixed anytime soon? I'm holding off on starting a fictional league that starts in the 1800's until (or IF) this gets fixed. Kind of a bummer.

No idea if it is planned to be fixed, or even seen as a bug, however I THINK I've managed to get it working as I want - start with financials in the year the league starts, have the financials progress but keep league strategy fixed to the conditions of one particular year in time.

I'll wait to the next patch before saying any more about this "issue" as it might just be a quirk of how it's setup to get the desired result.

Unfortunately I've tried that to no avail. I've started my game in 1905, set to automatically adjust financials and progress through the years. But the moment I even so much as tweak league strategy with changing pitching rotation, reliever usage, etc, it changes the financials to whatever year I'm using stats for (in this case, modern era 1980's).
