Trade AI
I created a historical league starting 1/1/2012 and assumed control of the Cubs. Soriano was placed in AAA so I needed to make room for him in the majors. There was a one star 30 year old OF named Jeff Baker on the roster. I shopped him to see if I could get anything useful at all. The Rangers offered me Derek Holland straight up or a 3.5 star prospect. I made the trade just to make sure it would go thru and then deleted the league. Obviously, their is a bug somewhere in the evaluation by the scouting system\trade AI.
Otherwise, the game is great. I haven't played much since OOTP 12. The new interface and speed of simulation is amazing. |

Two things, assuming you have scouting on.
1) How good did your scout say Jeff Baker was? 2) It's possible the Rangers' scout thought Baker was good and Holland wasn't. |

If that's the way scouting is working (w/ Holland's value), then that is messed up. Scouting reports on veteran players shouldn't differ that much from scout to scout. After all, you have several years of stats and performances at your disposal, not to mention well documented areas like fitness, attitude, endurance, pitch quality, etc. IMO, the only places scouts should be drastically different are in the draft pool, and the minors.
However, in regards to the original post it could be Baker was overvalued and the Rangers were in desperate need to fill a position. If that is the case it sounds like the AI is still not looking to free agency before making crazy offers in the "shop" function, which leaves me to believe the free agent cheat probably still works. That being, wait until the season starts, sign all the 3-5 star free agents still available for pennies on the dollar, and "shop" those players for super prospects. It stands to reason that if the AI was in such need for these guys, THEY would've made them an offer BEFORE the season started. |
