weather.txt not having enough data

Hello all
I know I'm not the only one who creates international leagues
If the world_default.xml has the latest info concerning countries and cities, how come the weather.txt has very few cities outside of the US/Canada?
Here is a website I found a couple of min ago, that gives info for rainfall and avg temperatures, for many cities across the world:
Country List | World Weather Online
This may not be the best site; but is anyone else seeing a lack of weather data and (not sure if this is the right word, but) disappointed?

I like to use weatherbase when I add cities to the weather file.

It's a cost/benefit trade-off. It was very time consuming collecting the climate normals data, then putting it into a usable format. Getting American and Canadian data is pretty easy, which is why there is so much of it. I went out of my way to get data for Japan, Puerto Rico, Cuba, South Korea, Germany, the Dominican Republic, and Ghana. Working on the weather means less time spent on other things.

Since I built that file, I've divorced, moved twice, gotten a new job, and was awarded custody of my kids. I also shepherded the creation of the ABA quickstart. I've not had the time nor the urge to revisit the file. There's a billion things I want to do with OOTP, but, I think I will just be fiddling with it as my hobby for the next five years. At some point, my kids will think spending time with me is uncool!

Doesn't involve the .dat file, you add them to the weather.txt file. For an existing game, I believe you can find in the Weather section of the Ballpark editor a button to re-import the weather database. I'm not 100% familiar with re-importing but I believe it automatically reassigns the weather values for you, might want to check with someone else on that though.

I can attach the weather.txt file if you'd like but I should mention that I changed a bunch of the rain values for the default entries also.

Correct. The weather.txt file can be found in: Documents/Out of the Park Developments/OOTP Baseball 13/database. I don't think you'll encounter any problems but backup your league first, just in case.

Edit the weather file as you like, then re-import the weather database through any of the park profiles in your league.

So your weather file would be more up to date than the default?

If it helps I attached the whole weather file.

do you know if the city is not in the file, does it pick the closet one? or does it just go to a default value?

It includes all of of the cities that I listed earlier in the thread, plus I changed the rain values for some of the original entries. The original ones used either the number of rain days for or amount of rain in inches for rain values depending on the available data at the time. I switched as many as I could from rain days to amount of rain.

Also, other than adding Oakland, Augusta and Dover there shouldn't be any changes to US or Canada cities.

Sorry, I'm not sure exactly how it picks for cities not on the list.
*edit* I don't have 14 yet but checking in 13 the teams in cities not in the weather file were assigned the values of the last city in the weather file.

Why did you opt to change them?

I'm probably wrong but when I first played around with the weather back in OOTP9 it looked like some of the values were based on rain amount in inches and others the number of rain days. The number of rain days just seemed too high for some cities, imo, and the amount seemed to work better so I've stuck with it. For example, in Yerevan the original rain values were 9,8,9,11,11,7,3,3,3,8,7,7 but I believe Yerevan is supposed to be a pretty dry place so using the amount in inches and rounding I came out with the values 1,1,1,1,2,1,0,0,0,1,1,1.

Just so everyone knows, I didn't change any of the US or Canadian city values and for the foreign cities it was only less than a dozen of them that I changed (I shouldn't have said a bunch earlier, my mistake) and only the ones that I thought differed like Yerevan. If necessary I can just as easily add my entries to the original list and post that file. Just let me know which way you guys would like it.

All the cities were based on the number of rain days per month, then that number was divided. I cannot recall what I divided it by. It was a simple whole number. The division was made to reflect that it could rain in a city (thus be counted as a rain day) but not actually rain during the game time.

The spreadsheet was put together a couple months after my youngest daughter was born. There may be errors in it! I blame sleep deprivation.
