microengineering player development

Suppose during September call-ups, a manager saw to it that a certain young player only pinch hit against a weak and tired pitcher, or only relief pitched against the bottom of the order.

Would this pump up his stats and goose his ratings a bit? I am unsure about how a player's performance at the end of the year influences changes in his ratings, if in fact it does at all.

Playing-time in the majors will help to develop a prospect but you have to be careful: when a player is over-matched you can get a negative effect.

Short injury replacement stints or September Callups are good spots to try young player out.

What does expanding your roster in the spring do? I thought maybe it would give the prospect a bump or maybe give him a break from that aspect of the game (mentioned in a thread last year by developer) where a player's abilities get worse if he spends too much time in minors.
I've seen good potential players completely stall in minors for 3, 4, 5 years only to blossom in the majors.

But when you send them back down they always get angry at you. Does this hurt development.

I've had it happen many times where I trade for a prospect and he is initially put on my major league roster and when I put him down because he is not ready....he gets upset. I always feel like this hurts their development.
