microengineering player development
Suppose during September call-ups, a manager saw to it that a certain young player only pinch hit against a weak and tired pitcher, or only relief pitched against the bottom of the order.
Would this pump up his stats and goose his ratings a bit? I am unsure about how a player's performance at the end of the year influences changes in his ratings, if in fact it does at all. |

Playing-time in the majors will help to develop a prospect but you have to be careful: when a player is over-matched you can get a negative effect.
Short injury replacement stints or September Callups are good spots to try young player out.

What does expanding your roster in the spring do? I thought maybe it would give the prospect a bump or maybe give him a break from that aspect of the game (mentioned in a thread last year by developer) where a player's abilities get worse if he spends too much time in minors.
I've seen good potential players completely stall in minors for 3, 4, 5 years only to blossom in the majors. |

I've had it happen many times where I trade for a prospect and he is initially put on my major league roster and when I put him down because he is not ready....he gets upset. I always feel like this hurts their development. |
