Looking to buy this game.
I am an old Microleague baseball nut. I looked at this game and am very interested in it, however I have a few questions I am looking at the overall description of the game and may answer and/ or come up with more questions.
1. Can you build teams using players from different seasons? For instance can you have different players from different years play on the same team like '27 Ruth and '85 Henderson on the same team? 2. How is the simulation play of the game? For instance can you have the entire season simulated by the computer or does a live person have to control the action. 3. How is the online play? Anyone owning/ playing the game that could help me decide if I should get this game would be appreciated. |

1. Yes, you can even import whole teams and create a league. Like the 27 Yankees, 75 Reds, 04 Sox, etc etc.
2. Yes, you can sim one day, one week, one month, one year, multiple years, sim to a specific date if you like. 3. Online is awesome, check out the online leagues forum, and check out a few websites. Ask some questions in there too, most Commishes are glad to accept new owners and are very helpful in getting them going and up to speed. Download the Demo, you'll be hooked in no time.

Is it difficult to add the players form different seasons to a league? Do I have to import all teams/ Years to create a league of teams with all the players that have played?
What I am trying to do if I decide to get the game is to create a league(s) that all players that have ever played can be a part of the league. |

As Bluenoser expressed, it is a fun game that will get you hooked. Simming is a breeze and the online experience is rewarding. I have not used the import feature, but the ability to do so is in the game.

Would it be better to buy the 13 version to get started or should I hold out for 14?

OOTP 13 has a mass import function now where you list a players ID (baseball ref shtml) and the year you want them to start from in a notepad file and then you can import them all into Free agents or the draft. My most recent Ammy Draft was this: mcgwima01,1986 maddugr01,1986 finlest01,1989 nettlgr01,1967 dawsoan01,1976 vaughgr01,1989 hundlto01,1990 wunscke01,2000 hornsa01,1987 harriga01,1955 I have one defunct league where I imported 600 players at one time. it was a league of some of the members favorite players from their favorite team. So some players were from the 20's most were from the 1980's thru today. 13 & 14 also has a random debut feature. You can start a historical league from any year and have players from 1871 thru 2012 on it. My 1901 White Sox has 37 Yr old Ty Cobb 20 yr old Mays, 28 yr old grace, etc. The Ammy draft will be rookies each year from any year. You can also do the same for fictional leagues but it's easier to implement starting with the Ammy draft. |

I probably haven't been playing the game as long as some of the guys on the forum (I started at OOTP X), but I've spent the most time playing these games then any other game in the last 4 years.
I primarily play this game for the online leagues, as I find the AI a little too easy unless I put restraints on myself (pick a low budget team, don't sign any big name FA's).. etc If you find the right online league, you'll have sooo much fun. I've been in many leagues that were duds, but there are some really good ones out there. Most of the good leagues have a waiting list, so it doesn't hurt to get a head start before OOTP 14 and try and get yourself on a waiting list somewhere. As a previous poster said, play the OOTP 13 demo, it should hold you over until OOTP 14 is released. Have fun! |

I understand that some players call this game easy, or complain that the A.I. is guilty of being easy to trick in a trade. However, I don't find myself struggling with either of those problems because I don't play this game to win. I want the franchise I manage to do well, but find that I spend more time in between games looking at other rosters and players that the joy I receive from playing OOTP is in experiencing the game.
Especially today, I watch the Blue Jays game, laptop on and playing ootp. It's a great game, I have fun, but can still manage a conversation with my kids or wife. It's easy to pick up and put down. The win for me is the fact that the time I spend playing is satisfying whether my fictional team wins, loses or makes a trade in the offseason. Just my ramblings. My advice is to buy OOTP 14. Best money for time spent ratio in existence. |

I've been playing this game for 11 years now, and the online leagues are a blast. But also, just in March I started my own "dynasty" league(Northeast Baseball League), and I am finding that this is an awesome way to play solo. I've played solo before against the AI, but doing it in dynasty fashion really makes you pay more attention to your team and the league. I wish I would've done this years ago. Take a look at the Dynasty section and just read through some of those, mine included if you like. I find myself checking that section two to three times a day! Guys there have some great writing ability, and it has also proved to me what a truly great game this is. And I agree with BigbyWolf, the AI is much improved from previous versions, and gets better with each new version.
For an example, when I started my dynasty, I had an inaugural draft, 100 rounds, and the salary cap is 1.2m. First, I found myself following each round, and waiting to get "my guy" in each round. For a guy who has little patience, I never saw myself doing that, but I was having so much fun, and it was such a challenge, I couldn't just sim the bulk of the draft, and let my "scout" make the decisions. And then, after the draft was completed, every team was under the 1.2m cap. Several teams were just under, and then other teams like me went on the cheap, and were much more under. It was awesome to see those kind of figures from the AI controlled teams! Kudos to Markus and his staff for getting the "evolvement" of the AI to this point. And I'm sure it will be impoved even more in OOTP14. Last edited by progen; 04-05-2013 at 09:53 AM. |
