Controlling Teams

Question before i buy the game

Can you control all the teams at once, so you can play out a year with the transactions as they happen , or can you only take control of one team at a time like EHM

There's an option to turn off trades (visible in commissioner mode-league menu-edit league-league rules tab), but it's disabled, along with a lot of other league editing functions, right now, pending further testing. There seems to be a lot of interest in having that particular ability, though, so we'll try to make it a priority for re-activation.

My intent is to play just the NHL and control every team team within it, so that I can simulate the current season using real life lineups, line combos, etc. That's the option I'm hoping for.

I hear you. I'm the same way. I was hoping for a bit more depth to commish mode like that of OOTP. t

I don't want to "turn off" trades so much as control all aspects of the trades. I personally have no interest in playing GM, except maybe controlling who to call up or send down to the farm team(s). I just don't want to mess with an AI to "build" teams, and I also don't have an interest in the financial aspects of running an NHL team. I'm an accountant and work in it all day, I don't want to play in it also.

I would much rather make the real-life trades in commissioner mode as they actually happened. I would then just play coach working out the lines and tactics, and filling in the empty slots left from injuries. I may want to play coach for a single team and let the AI play the other teams, but I may also want to have full control of all teams too. In other words, my interest is in simulating a semi-real historical progression of the NHL using actual trades. I don't want the exact same results as real life, but I don't want them way off the mark either. I even foresee wanting to restart a new historical game every year just to get away from the fictional nature of the skills development engine.

I know a lot of work has gone in (and will go in) to these aspects of the game I want to turn off, but the way I want to use the game, to me, is what hockey is all about. The money business that hockey has become is not a game I want to play. I realize this is the premise of the game, but I would imagine these changes\additions wouldn't be too complicated for OOTP developers to make.
