Was this fixed/improved?

One of the last patches in ver 13 helped and there was a workaround but still.....will there be a way to adjust the font size in different parts of the game? Like reading the newspaper articles and other stuff? Many of us are older and have various vision problems so it's really important. It's there in the pbp and works great. Some of us need different font sizes like large, larger and largest. I didn't see this in the list of ver 14 features so I'm wondering. Thanks.

Also, perhaps, the ability to select different fonts based on legibility and aesthetics. I remember in OOTP13 that it was almost a version-killer for me until a work-around was found (involving loading an old font from 12, not optimal, but better) and then that surprise "Improved Font Rendering" patch at the very end. Most welcome, that was.

Yes, I remember all that also. And there were some discussions that I was involved in. That's why I was surprised to see no mention of it in the list of features and asked. The new version doesn't offer much in the way of new stuff for me and, if this wasn't corrected satisfactorily, I'll stick with ver 13.

Unfortunately, you really cannot tell anything from screen prints. WYSI(not)WYG in that case. The only true test is how it looks on your own monitor.

Which makes it tough on OOTPD, I know. It's very hard to please everybody with one setup, which goes back to your point (and mine) about CHOICE.

What encouraged me was the evidence that this issue was at least on their radar. Up to the time of that patch, all I saw was somebody getting back-patted for her wonderful graphics work while numerous complaints from people like us were officially ignored or dismissed.

Yes, and what I don't understand is it works very well in the pbp. If not for the larger fonts there, I wouldn't be playing the game. After the brouhaha last year, I don't understand why there's not even a mention of it in the features list. Maybe they just consider it as fixing a bug and not worth including it in the list. Maybe with this thread someone will post about it.

Well, I don't want to be their apologist (they can handle that chore if they care to, and I don't mean "apology" per se), but I do know that expanding font in a scrollable text box like PbP is much easier than varying font sizes in size-restricted windows and cells that comprise a user interface.

No argument with that. Copying the ver 12 font over solved the problem for me but barely. However I would think there are others with worse eyes than mine. I get them checked and get new glasses regularly but sometimes they can't get any better. I even had an operation a couple years ago to try and help. All I'm saying is whatever they can do would be good. And posting info on what's going on would be very good.

It wasn't just the strength of one's eyes. Mine are fine (with mild reading glasses).

The main font they used last year was not as crisp and clear as the previous one. PERIOD. They did not want to admit it, but that was the case.

I could read it clearly, but after a few hours, I noticed my eyes were bothering me. It was the added effort of focusing and refocusing that was eye-straining.

So, it's not an old folks complaint, OOTPD team. I guess you realized that in the end, resulting in the "Improved Font Rendering" patch. And even if it WERE an old folks complaint, well, better realize, you geniuses in your 20's and 30's, that many of your customers are BABY BOOMERS.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

Holy Smokes! They do listen to us! (Sometimes. )

I offer my thanks and those of others, on their behalf, who were similarly affected last year.

John J McGraw, nice work with this thread.
