Do you ever.....

Like to follow the players that used to be on your team career? Find out who got them and for how much? Wonder why they took HALF as much in salary as they DEMANDED from you in Extention Negotiations?? That's the one I check for most and it reeeely burns me up to see a player that I couldn't afford because he wanted too much from me take 1/2 as much in free agency! lol Figure out the best way to stop this is let them go, wait for some other team to make the salary deal for them and then trade for them back.

Do you ever notice how they pitched or batted like crap for you and then you have to play against them and they pitch a shutout or blast grand slams?

It's almost too funny that the LA Angels get some of my quality players just like in real life and last year came in 1 game behind me 103-59 and that <~~ was a Wild Card team standing. Wouldn't you hate to win 103 games and just be a Wild Card team? But, of course there was a time you'd win that many games and not get in the playoffs at all.

I actually had a guy named Ray "Hammerhand" Benson as my number 5 SP a few years ago when I one the Poke Series in my fictional league. My number 4 got hurt and missed the playoffs and we made it to the final series with Benson as my number 4 and I was avoiding using him when I could because he really was just average at best. Anyway, I'm down 3 games to 1 in the final and I had nobody but Benson to put in so I reluctantly did so and he managed to get the win and we ended up coming back and winning that series. It was an awesome experience because I've never won on any league before and this was a team I took over that hadn't made the playoffs in 20 years and after a 5 year rebuild we made it to the top.

This is sort of relevant because Benson wanted a bit too much from me for my fifth starter so I threw him in with a trade I was working on with a division rival. Three years later and he's still just okay but only making $750k over 1 year now. Problem is, he just threw a no-hitter against me.

At the end of every season, I check in with many of the players on my shortlist that I traded away to see how they did. I have had more than a few suck when they play for me then become superstars the season after I trade them! So, I have developed a new player development system: I keep a player in my minors until my scout tells me he is ready for the bigs. Then I keep him on my roster no matter how badly he sucks. THEN, I trade him to the first team who really wants him when his ratings have dropped and then trade back for him six months later when his ratings are maxed out in every category! I have won a few championships this way. . .

HAHA good story and don'tcha just love it when they come back to haunt you? That's what HAMILTON is going to do to the Rangers this year when the Angels meet them the first series of this year. I can hardly wait for that. I almost feel a "hit by pitch" coming out of someone.

Would be nice if we get multiple shortlists so I could keep track of all players I traded away. Midway thru my 3rd season with the Chicago Fire I have traded away about 13 players. My backup SS from my 1st 2 seasons made the all Star team in 2002. 4th in HR. Could use him right now as my 2002 #1 draft pick Chuck Berry (Ernie Banks) is batting .143 in 91 ABs and Ozzie Guillen is injured. I have some former players in other leagues that I check to see what they are doing almost every week.

i definitely do this. i have fun at All-Star announcements seeing if any players i traded away made it.

mostly i like to go back in my Transactions after a couple years and see how well i made out in a trade. on the surface it seems like you can make out pretty well by trading veterans for prospects, but when i go back things have a way of evening out.

Yeah I know what you mean about trades. I've had some great trades that I surely got the better end of the deal and I've had those that didn't pan out as well as I thought they would. Especially PITCHER trades. Pitchers get pounded in Arlington stadium and to get one who can hold his own there is RARE let me tell yah. lol Verlander got stomped in Arlington Stadium hahaha

On that note: Why have they not STANDARDIZED stadiums to be the same for all teams like say FOOTBALL FIELDS and BASKETBALL COURTS and SOCCER FIELDS?

Baseball is the ONLY sports games I know (I guess golf would count) that has DIFFERENT SIZED STADIUMS.....why?

I shortlist every player I trade or becomes a Free Agent. I like to watch their careers, maybe get them back if I can, or just make sure I made a good trade. I've had a few minor leaguers get massive ratings boosts AFTER I trade them. That sucks.
