How is WAR calculated in OOTP 13?

There is discussion in my league that WAR is not calculated correctly. Any one else have thoughts on this?

I don't think there is a "correctly". Different websites will use different metrics to calculate the different factors. This is particularly true for the defense part. It certainly works good enough within the context of the game IMO.

Right. I don't know what the formulas are, but Baseball-Reference, Baseball Prospectus and FanGraphs all use different formulas. I'm pretty sure all three list the formulas they use on their websites. I don't know if OOTP uses one of those three or its own, but it seems to work well considering there isn't one commonly used formula.

IIRC, Markus once wrote that he used his own formula for WAR.

I should have noted that since WAR is a non-standardized stat that Markus has just as much right to his version of it as BP, FG and B-Ref do to theirs.

I don't understand why Markus won't/hasn't told us what the calculations are. The fact he hasn't/won't scares me. It usually means he took some sort of shortcut he doesn't want us to see.

Or it could mean that he doesn't want to give out proprietary information to everyone in the world, including his competitors. There are other explanations here.

I am not attempting to cast stones here, but it's known that there are aspects of OOTP that Markus himself has said he doesn't want us to have knowledge of because it could ruin the experience. I'm simply wondering if this is one of those instances. It's kind of like the secret sauce in a Big Mac.
